Got it. Now the west is just between Wild and Columbus I think.

Ride on back, Spezza. We'll need you for a run.

1 even strength assist, 1 PP assist, +1, game high 8 shots, game high 27+ min.

Brent Wallace: "Is there something you didn't like about your game tonight?"

Karlsson: "Yeah there are a lot of things"...

LOL

Karlsson with 27 min toi and assists on both goals. Looked a little rusty but still coming back in a big way

Pumped for playoffs!

I'll admit my brother and I laughed about that too when he said it, but the scary thing is it's true. For one, he could have had 4 assists if his teammates gave him some help, and his backwards skating and footspeed were both clearly out of whack, and he made a couple rash decisions with the puck.

And yet...still one of the best players on the ice tonight. Scary player.

Agreed, except he was the best player.

I agree with Karlsson... he could definitely improve some things. But he was still the best out there. When he's on the ice, the opponent's net just gets bombarded with shots, whether it's by him or his teammates.

Scary is a good way to describe him.

27 minutes, 2 assists, +2 in a 2-1 game. Looked very, very good. Some of his positioning and in close work is rusty for his standard. Many sweet passes that we haven`t seen since he was out. Definite big impact for the team.

Yeah! And we did it without all our best players for almost the whole season.

Congrats. A gritty effort by an injury plagued team.

Rangers clinch as well. Final 8 are set with only 1 game remaining for most teams.

Funnily enough Spezza was the one they said would likely be back in time for playoffs...

To answer the question, though, I'd say, no, no chance. If we were to go deep, maybe then, but I think even the biggest optimist would say we'd be waiting until round 2 to see him in a game.

Karlsson is money. He needs to be the team’s best player for Ottawa - who is missing Spezza - to make any noise in the playoffs.

Karlsson looked rusty, but still was the best player on the ice.

His first step is understandably slow, but his vision and passing ability hasn't changed. Had a really good game for us still and played way more minutes than anyone expected ~27.

I thought that Karlsson was missing that jump. He looked like he was about 39 years old. Karlsson 39 not Gonchar 39 :p. He doesn't yet have that explosiveness that he had before.

-- Oh and on the game winner Zibanejad was screening... was taking the right side of the net from Gonchar, then slipped back to the middle and Gonchar fired it to where he was standing. You could see that that was what they intended. Pretty cool how easy it is too see these things on camera.

IMO, spezza is looking like round 2 at the earliest.

Congrats!

All three Canadian teams in the East made it to the playoffs, when was the last time this happened?

[edit] ehh forgot the Jets.

I used to think that I would pick only Crosby and Malkin over EK, with Stamkos coming a close 4th. I have come to think that there is one one player who I may choose over EK in the league.

EK is second on my best player in the world list - he is one of the few players who can give Crosby a run for the money for perennial best player in the league.
