As I clearly said, DC may be the best matchup. But the reasoning was naive. You should base your matchup based on what your team is versus what the opponent is. The Caps are neither the 2-8-1 abortion from January/February or the Michael Neuvirth-led, already-clinched lazyslobs of this evening.

As a Caps fan, I'd much prefer facing Ottawa to the Rangers, basing it solely on the team I expect to see in the playoffs, not the record built up from many games of months ago.

Just saw on RDS, the Habs have clinched home ice and will play game 1 on Tuesday.

The way we're going I feel lucky just to be here so I'm not picky.

Pretty much anyone but the Caps. Just tired of seeing them.

Ok, and the end result is still the Caps.

Sorry.

We've beaten the Bruins once in like 16 or 17 straight games.

And the Pens beat us with all of their best players out, let alone when they're healthy.

If you want me to be more frightened of the Caps, I am truly sorry to disappoint you in some way.

Caps have some high powered players up front and a good work ethic during their streak but I think we have a better shot with our system and players in keeping things close.

Of remaining options....

Pit vs Nyi
Bos vs Nyr
Wsh vs Ott
Mtl vs Tor

I think Nyr has the best chance to take out the leafs biggest worry in Boston.

I love the East seedings as they are now and hope they stay this way.

Penguins vs Isles
Bruins vs Rangers
Capitals vs Senators
Habs vs Leafs

Those look like incredibly fun first round matchups!

1) Minnesota - Seem in a tier below the next 3 possibilities
2) LA - We've matched up really well against them in the reg season, and I doubt Quick repeats his playoff performance of last year.
3) Blues - Would be a tough, physical series, but I think we could still come out on top, albeit bruised
4) San Jose - DNW They have out number this year, and imo have the best team on paper out of the 4 as well.

I'm glad both sides feel the same way. We have just met each other too many times in the last 5 years. Need something new! Of course if we do end up meeting in the 2nd or 3rd round I doubt either of our fanbases would be too upset

Philly was a nightmare matchup for the pens last year. Luckily the pens have fairly favorable matchups this year.

1) Ottawa - Backing into the playoffs.
2) Isles - Young and inexperienced compared to the pens.
3) Rangers - Historically own them but probably the best of the three.

I'll take the Caps. No rival fans, no team rivalry, nothing scary about them outside Ovechkin. Karlsson wins that matchup vs. Green, Andy might win his first series there.
Sens in 6 vs. WSH.

Hawks vs. Wings
Ducks vs. Sharks
Canucks vs. Wild
Kings vs. Blues

Pens vs. Islanders
Montreal vs. Ottawa
Washington vs. Rangers
Boston vs. Toronto

Didn't check standings, so I'm not sure if these are still feasible, but they'd be dope as hell.

This is how I would like it to play out. With Karlsson back I think Ottawa finishes in 6th. The Rangers and Islanders will probably win their last game and the Rangers take 7th because of the row.

As a Penguins fan:

Islanders-I don't see them going far, but I do think they can pull and upset first round on someone. Nabokov is still a solid goalie when he's on and they have a lot of speed and scoring up front.

Rangers-to many thing could wrong in this series I think. Lundqvist is damn good, the games get physical, but the lack of Marc Staal hurts them and I'm not sold on their offense up front.

Ottawa-I guess in the end I'd want Ottawa. I feel like this would be a good series to start the playoffs for the Pens. Definitely think they would get up for the games and want to knock them out after the whole Cooke/Karlson debacle. A good physical series would get the Pens into the games. Anderson can steal a game or two, but not having Spezza would hurt their offense. So bring on Ottawa!

Now that the Islanders are in 6th place, a Caps-Isles series would be fun with a 4ot game 7 again.
