Predators Sign Miikka Salomäki to ELC

Miikka Makes the Jump

I'm eager to see what he does in Milwaukee now that he will (presumably) be getting considerably more ice time than he has with Karpat.

His avg ice time this season was 18 minutes per game.
A strong player considering his height. Could be a solid 3rd liner in the NHL.
Hope he works out for you guys!

How much of that was shorthanded time, then? I can't imagine a player getting 18 minutes a night and not putting up at least half a point per game...

based on tonight's Halischuk injury, he could be FedExed directly to Columbus for Saturday's game

Forsberg is already being recalled for Saturday's game, but figure it'll mean someone else is likely staying Saturday that would have been otherwise playing for Milwaukee in Game 2.

Raised the possibility of Salomaki heading to Columbus on Twitter earlier and Jim Diamond raised a good point... It's not likely the Preds will be able to get work visa issues worked out in time to dress Salomaki for Saturday's game at Columbus...

Good point on the work visa, thanks...

I think they should dress Yip, Hornqvist, Gaustad, Beck and Bourque and just petition the league for the use of wheelchairs, crutches and full body armor.

Not 100% sure, but I think he played a lot of PK.

He's a good hitter, too. Pretty physical player.

I've watched this kid play a lot and I wouldn't expect much out of him. He's slow, he has very little hockey sense and he is short. Doesn't have that good of a shot either

His skating is not bad. His hockey sense, while not his best part, isnt a weakness either.
He needs to avoid going overboard with the physical play.

Salomäki played for my home team and I've been following him closely. This guy is MUCH better than his stats show. He has suffered from injuries and that's why his stats are not so great. And in Finland we have that nice thing called millitary service, which ruined his preseason. At the same time his team had some problems, and there was a lot of changes in lineups etc. I predict he is going to be fans favorite, just like he was here. IMO his style of play fits much better in smaller rink.

Something about Miikka Salomäki:

- Strong, hard working player, who plays in any position.
- Plays PK, but good player in PP too.
- Drives to the net and doesn't mind bruises
- Good wrister, should use it more...
- He can score goals and he has pretty good vision
- Well he is annoying... opponent hates him, but you love him
- Big potential
- Some stats
- Nickname: Härkä=Ox, Bull...
- Pekka Rinne played also in Kärpät and is still practicing here every summer, so maybe he gives Miikka some tips.

And sorry about my english

Edit.

Sounds like a Komarov with more offensive flair.

Remember watching Salomakki in the junior tournament and instantly became one of my favourite prospects. Will be interesting to see what he can do in the AHL.

Thanks for the info and videos, JukaJokinen! Your English is better than some people who were born in the US.

He looks likes half Tootoo and half Tony Hrkac. I look forward to seeing him play!

I've been disappointed by his offensive production. He isn't fast he is pretty average skater. He has been injured so i see still potential in him. He doesen't own best hands but his hockeysense and offensive vision is pretty underrated. He is strong like ox and plays with an edge. He is annoying but Komarov is on different level on agitating. I could see him being 3rd liner. He seem to never be furious. He has a annoying smile when he agitates. Looked very good at 2012 WJC in small rink being one of the best players for team Finland IMO. Definetly a better player than Joonas Rask in every possible way.
