Gagne Signs 5 Year, $26.25 Million Contract

Doesn't this contract put the Flyers over the Cap Limit?

I knew he wouldn't leave Philly

That's the first thing I thought of when I read your headline. If not then they are very close.

The second thought was how long will it be before we compare his deal to Bergerons.

I think Gagne is an elite player and is well worth the cash.

Yeah..... Meet "Count Da Money's" new brother....... "Show Me Da Money"!!!!
I agree with you though..... Gagne is a seasoned and proven elite NHL player, and given the amounts of some of the contracts awarded this summer, his seems to be right on the mark. If Philly is over, I wonder who they'll dump?

First thing I thought of is, does this mean Keith Primeau won't be coming back?

Please, please, please, let it be Nedved!

It's likely Primeau and/or Nedved are soon to be gone.

Based on numbers I have seen, puts them a shade under $42 million.

wow - Gagne's a good player and all, but it just seems like a five-year deal for a player as physical as he is could backfire.

I think so too. Bergeron was already better last season at age 20 than Gagne was pre-lockout (and Forsberg) at age 23-24.

There is no doubt Bergeron will be considered the superior player by the 2nd year of this deal....probably surpassing him this year. Gagne had a great season, but only had 6 points more than Bergeron playing with Forsberg. Very fair deal for Gagne and a good signing by Philly.

I think we are about a mil over the cap now. We can eaily get back under though, we have a lot of unnecessary depth players. Send Nedved down and we are comfortably under.

It is interesting. On the NHLPA site, the Flyers are listed as having 29 players under contract for a total of a shade under $42mil. That's before Gagne's contract. And, for some reason, Nittymaki's $1mil is not listed. So, they are close to the cap...well, until Forsberg gets hurt.
