I'm so glad with how outstanding Price was tonight. Fantastic game for him and in my opinion that is the biggest plus we take from tonight.

Huge win. Optimism is still huge

How can people be mad at Patches? Even though he's been playing "bad", he has points in 30 of 43 games and is near a point per game. Likely would be at that without the appendix thing slowing him down for a few games.

Was going to watch the game before posting but I had a dream we lost 8-1 and Price made 120 saves so I wanted to check the boxscore to make sure I wasn't psychic. Will watch now.

Seeing DD fight for position and get a good bounce is encouraging. Is he free from any criticism? Absolutely not. Still, it's encouraging. End of the day, he can contribute and we need this team to be confident going into playoffs. So, I'm happy by some of the hustle he's showing lately. It's encouraging.

FWIW, I believe DD's PPG was higher in 2nd half of last season than in first. Hopefully it's a trend we can use here.
I'm not a DD basher. But just because he scored a goal doesn't mean he played a strong game. I actually thought he was pretty bad tonight. Could not win along the boards. It was always gally or patch retrieving the puck, and then DD passing it to a winnepeg player to kill all momentum of the forecheck. He still made terrible passes on the PP, and seemed ineffective overall besides the 5 on 3.

He did win faceoffs, but not many of them turned into offensive opportunities. I'm glad he scored and hoping he steps his game up because I'm really rooting for him and I was trying to detract the haters at the beginning of the season, but he hasn't made me look very good this year.

I liked the idea of adding Bourque to the DD line. Bourque is smaller than Cole but it's the same idea. I think DD can be put into a more successful position with both Pac and Bourque.

In no order:

Pac-DD-Bourque
Ryder-Plek-Gio
Galch-Eller-Gally

Should be the top 3 lines IMO

Similar situation to Desharnais. As long as he isn't THAT similar to Gomez, we have a chance to win.

How can you not even admit when he has an outstanding game? And disregard him as ever being elite when he is still young?

The agenda you have against him is ridiculous.

He's our 2nd line centre though. Realistically, he is. Desharnais is our 3rd line C...He should be used like Briere used to be used in Philly, 3rd line C and PP specialist. Though, DD isn't really all that good on the PP this year.

I've been a big fan of your optimism and level headed posting for some time. Your point about price is right, he needed a big game like this to feel good about himself. I maintain my stance that other than the 5-1 game, all the big losses this year haven't really been on price. Hopefully with Tinordi our D can pick up the pieces and play solid. He needs the support.

Price was MTL's best player tonight for me, not really close. Gallagher second, what a fearless competitor, it's literally impossible to not like him.

What about Gionta? Gallagher?

The only players who produce on the PP are Pleks, Ryder, Pacioretty and Eller. All of our other forwards don't produce very well. Galchenyuk (small sample), Gionta, Desharnais, and Gallagher have all struggled on the PP. I can't remember if Bourque does well or not.

I was talking about the GDT when people were jumping off cliffs because they gave it to DD and he'd get more ice-time somehow (he's going to get his ice-time whether he produces or not, it seems).

Tinner was more than could be realistically expected tonight. If only we had someone to replace Bouillon now who has been just awful for the last month.

Eller is our "2nd line center" simply because he's outplaying DD but DD still get the best wingers, ice-time and PP time.

Pateryn

Hypothetically, he could be sat and still leave us with PK, Markov, and Diaz as PMD.

Crazy stat here, we still don't have a Top-3 line specialist but;

Plekanec .. 50.4%
Desharnais .. 50.2%
Eller .. 49.0%
Halpern 56.1%

Our faceoffs have been beastly of late.

When you consider DD and Eller both started the year at like 43% after 5-10 games, that means that they are well over 50%, as well as Plekanec. Nice.

I still wish we had a Bergeron, but it's still positive.

If every player on the team played like Gallagher we'd either have 15 players injured at all times or never lose a game.

Thanks, my friend! You are one of the real quality posters and I find you are usually spot on. I agree, Price was awful one game but many of the others were a combination of multiple bad factors.

I was nervous about how Tinordi would play, but he looks destined for the playoffs after tonight and I couldn't be happier! The game from Tinordi and Price tonight are very encouraging for the playoffs.

Oh come on man. DD has produced on the PP a little more lately. And he's a PP faceoff god.

And Therrien has started using Galchenyuk and Eller on the PP more often. They both had over 1 minute tonight.

Almost seems like Therrien is rolling the lines on the PP now.

A somewhat crazy stat about Markov though;

He has less ES points that Subban, Gorges, Bouillon, Drewiske, Emelin, and Diaz. Hopefully we can get him for a discount, because even though he's still reliable, he's become more of a PP specialist now.
