The preds need scoring here is why they need to draft Drouin. Drouin had 30 more points than Mackinnon in only 5 more games.. That's really impressive! 105 points in 49 games for Drouin and 75 in 44 for Mackinnon

it is juniors.. lots of people feel mackinnon is more of the overall complete player. preds desperately need a franchise center. that's why people are so eager to grab mac over drouin.

no disrespect to drouin, because by all accounts ive read/seen, he is gonna be a gamebreaker.

like i said though, barkov is starting to really seem like an exceptional choice to me.

Im just glad that the one year we finally get a high draft pick the top 7 prospects arent defensemen and goalies....

but I do agree this is a potentially franchise altering choice.

I dont know enough to say who to pick, but please Polie, pick a winner....

So if we're comparing these young kids who are at the top of the draft, who do they compare to that is in the NHL?

Here is my opinion anyways.

Mack = J. Toews
Drouin = P. Kane
Barkov = J. Thorton
Lindholm = H. Zetterberg
Monohan = P. Bergeron

This is how I see each of the players if they reach their max potential.

Want Drouin to bring mad swag to the Bridge; Never had a player with as much swag as him... Get him set up with a hot ass country star and he will be a Pred for life.

So at the end of the day it depends what you're really looking for. Mac seems like the best choice to me if possible. While Drouin may be that special offensive player, Mac may be the most complete choice. And while he may not be as "sexy" offensively, his overall game plus leadership qualities is everything you want out of a pick like this. It would be nice to have a guy that can lead by example, back it up offensively and defensively and win a faceoff or two along the way. We've never had a top end center let alone one that can win important faceoffs.

Perhaps the best scenario we can look at right now which would most likely happen is Tampa picks up a point at home against Florida. We could slide into the 3 spot and cross our fingers that we, Col, or Fla wins the lottery pick.

It's been a pretty draining year. Glad its just about done, and looking forward to seeing what Poile does in the offseason.

What is the price to swap from #3 to #2 in a draft like this? I can't imagine it's that much given how close the first ~4 are in quality.

3 to 2 isn't a big deal.

4 to 3 or 4 to 2 is going to cost more than we can afford.

The only time I can really think of the Predators going off the generally accepted draft board in the first round was with Pickard, and they had already made one choice in that draft.

TBL plays FLA for the last game of the season. Someone has to win; go Bolts! #3 is ours if they get a point and we lose in regulation.

Daigle, Svitov, Benoit Pouliot, Gilber Brule, Cam Barker, hell...Erik Johnson and Luke Schenn. I'm hopeful, and the organization has a good track record for drafting and developing, but I'm not going to assume the player will be any better than Craig Smith until I see it happen.

Just wait until a slow start, or our first losing streak next season, and the tank makes an early appearance.

I was reading TheScoutingReport's midterm rankings to see who had risen and fallen, and I found someone who I don't want us to draft...#3 ranked (in September) Sean Monahan

Quote:
Monahan is another late birthday who projects to be a Top 5 pick in 2013. After bulking up since first entering the league, Monahan has developed into a well-rounded two-way centre who has high-end vision. Playing a style that emulates that of Sean Couturier, Monahan is a versatile centre who will be able to play a number of different roles at the NHL level. Monahan’s skating and explosiveness need to continue to improve to add a dynamic element to his game, but Monahan projects to have first line upside at the NHL level.
Trotz will turn him into Legwand 2.0, guarenteed.

They had Drouin at #12 at this point. He has really shot up the draft board, along with Nurse (who missed the top 30 cut).

Ok so LOSE to CBJ & it's 70% chance for #3 14% chance at #2, win jumps it up to 40% #6, 37% for #5. If Trotz starts Rinne then he's purposely trying to screw CBJ and in the process NSH

New NHL.com mocks are out, with us at #4 (they go off the current standings. We got Drouin once, Barkov once, and Shinkaruk once. After Jones, they all disagreed hugely.

Shinkaruk is someone I like, but not that high.

That's high for Hunter but the CHL playoffs are going on so it might be that. The comparison I hear is Stan Mikita. Aggressive with scoring ability.

From what I've read, he's a smallish guy that has a great shot. I like that, but Drouin, Mac, and Barkov are (from what I've heard) more dynamic.

What would we have to be looking at to trade to get another top three pick?
Example,
We get the third pick after Florida wins lottery. Florida picks first and takes jones.
What would it take from us to get colorados second overall and we draft Mack AND drouin?!

To get those two boys together, I think we should be willing to trade a ton to get that second pick.

Would this work or not enough?

To Colorado,
2014 preds first, 2015 preds first, Ryan Ellis, and Austin Watson?

I doubt Colorado goes for that. We would likely have to toss Kevin Klein or Roman Josi in a package. Colorado needs defense that will help now.

Put yourself in their shoes...would you do our 1st to them for their 2014 1st, 2015 1st, Tyson Barrie, and Sgarbossa?

trying to get both of those would be basically rebooting the franchise. Im not sure thats where Poile (and ownership) want to go. I think if he can get one guy who can step in right now, plus forsberg, plus make another trade this summer and have us competitive again in the fall and still have a lot of our assets, thats were he goes with it.
