Any thoughts about Oliver Lauridsen going for Denmark?
I think It's awesome to see so many Flyers joining team Canada. I hope they are finally going to win the gold (If Czech rep. is not able, of course ).

I believe it was Metzler or someone else that tweeted yesterday that Laurdisen will probably play for Denmark.

I'm kind of shocked Giroux and Stamkos are going for Canada. Them two are locks for Canada at Sochi.

Usually for the US and Canada it's guys who are on the taxi squad or young guys who make the team because both nations don't take it serious enough.

I think Simmonds is going to destroy it in that setting

If we were healthy, Timonen, Coburn, and Grossmann would probably be going as well...

I rarely get into it the WC. Last time I watched it Robert Esche was the goalie for Team USA.

He was probably way down the list of people to invite. The US has a hard time convincing established players to play in this tournament.

US Goaltenders:
Quick
Miller
Anderson
Schneider
Howard

Most of these guys are in playoffs. Miller's a pretty good bet for Sochi so there's really no incentive for him to play. Ben Bishop isn't a bad choice for the starting role though. He's on par with Canad's choice in Dubnyk.

Ben Bishop is already going. Danny Kristo also going for the Americans and he hasn't even played professionally yet. US usually has to rely on guys playing overseas for a few spots given that of all the teams in the tournament, it means the least to the US.

The Canada roster so far is pretty damn scary. Dubnyk hasn't had a bad year either, so he could be capable of winning for them.

I'm surprised Canada got Giroux, Stamkos, and the Staal brothers to play in this. I would say all four of them have really good shots at making Canada for Sochi. I guess they lucked out with all those teams having disappointing seasons.

For me there are only two games that would be worth watching live and that is Swe - Can and the final, and since Swe - Can is sold out I guess it's the finals or nothing. Only problem is that a ticket costs 2800 SEK (roughly 425 USD) and I don't know if I can afford that on a student budget...

Given that Canada has lots of forwards, esp., the best way of ensuring you get considered for the Olympics is to attend the WC if asked.

Canada would be stupid not to take Giroux and Stamkos for Sochi if they decided not to play in this tournament. The Staal Brothers while I think they make it. They could fit into that theory though.

Canada is the best hockey nation but even they struggle to convince their guys to go to this tournament every year. They usually get a couple of stars players to go and fill the rest of the roster out with solid players and up and comers. Similar to the US but Canada has more depth and more quality players than them.

The European countries take this way more serious than the US and Canada.

Holy ****, John Garrett has Toews as an extra forward... and Brad Richards in the lineup.

How this guy remains employed is beyond me. Be thankful you don't have to listen to this idiot every night (he's the colour commentator for Canucks games on Sportsnet).

Wow, that's kind of expensive, I went to world cup in switzerland and I paid 150 EUR ( 195 $ ) a ticket for the "bronze" final between Sweden and Usa. Had pretty good seats, very close to the ice in center.

Don't waste your money, Swe will probaby get knocked out before
