Trouba was hands down my favorite defenseman of the 2012 draft. I was one of the few guys that had him right behind Murray on their lists. Still love him today. Hampus Lindholm has been great but I still wish we got Trouba instead. He plays with the kind of edge paired with excellent two way play that our blueline has been missing. Happy for Winnipeg though. That blueline is gonna be sick down the line. Enstrom, Buff, Trouba, Bogo

Shea Weber is definitely the guy I see in him, or perhaps Rob Blake. Still obviously has a long way to go, but the thought that he could reach that level is tantalizing.
I called him a Shea Weber look a like the first time I saw him play. Wanted him on the Ducks so bad but I'll settle for Winnipeg. Basically that's how it will always go for me. If the Ducks can't have him, I hope the Jets get them instead.

He's been invited to the US camp first the WCs. Anyone know what other defenders got invited?

They don't have a tryout camp so he's either on the team or he'll be going to the practices before they decide to officially add him or not. They currently have 6 d-men (Faulk, Carle, Petry, Butler, McBain, Hunwick) on the team and could take upwards of 8-9 if they choose but they're probably waiting for guys like Yandle, Byfuglien, Goligoski, etc. to decide and it's possible Jack Johnson will be available as well.

Some things I noticed. Calm demeanor. Doesn't panic. Doesn't take a lot of dumb penalties - despite playing a hard nosed game. Not the guy to quarterback the power play but good -but not too cute- outlet passes and a good shot from the point. Adam Foote is a good comp. Don't like the Cam Fowler comparison. Brooks Orpik with a little more offense would be a comp. Seems to have a high hockey IQ.

I think he is pretty respected on HFBoards based on what I have read but coming through the US development program then taking the collage route has kept him a bit more low profile to allot of the Canadian posters who don't follow the NCAA closely. I have posted updates once in a while this year but it seems like on balance interest peaks for Jacob when his exposure goes up like at the WJC or the recent Worlds.

I sense no lack of love (much of it comes from the leaf fans actually) just a lack of attention due to exposure.

I'm really hoping that he plays in the AHL for a bit next year. Getting to see him play would almost be worth the price of admission alone. Hopefully he & Scheifele are in St.John's next year.

Trouba looked unbelievable last night for Winnipeg. Goal and an assist, moves the puck well, solid defensively (on teams #1 pk unit), and has been absolutely nasty- just about took halls head off in the third. Was even out out there with a few minutes left to preserve the lead. Looks Pronger-esque.

Don't forget he played 25 minutes and was the first star.

For the doubters, what evidence is there that trouba won't be an all star? He has dominated at every level so far

Absolutely looks incredible!!

I thought that if the hit on Hall would have connected it would have been a clear suspension for targeting the head with his shoulder. I get that nasty is good in this league sometimes but why is throwing suspendable checks a good thing exactly?

He is a stud.

For all the talk about how weak the 2012 draft was, when a kid like Trouba goes 9th and Teravainen goes 18th, it couldn't have been that poor.

"Took his head off" is a figure of speech. He almost made contact with him when Hall had his head down. Still separated Hall from the puck as he had to dive out of the way.

Just because it was a weak draft dosen't mean great players can't come from it. A weak draft simply means the depth is horrible, and the high end talent is few and far between, so jist because some players like Trouba become studs dosen't mean the draft wasen't a weak one.

And Trouba is a stud. I always thought top4 but in the last couple months seeing him live 5-6 times everytime I was blown away

Trouba was asked about the near hit on hall on Winnipeg sports radio this evening and he said he saw that Hall was in a dangerous position and he avoided trying to make contact. The kid has it on so many levels.

I think Trouba will be better than Jones, he's just an exceptional player and I'd take him over Murray to. I think he's gotta be the favorite for the Calder this season.

He should be a 50-60pt dman, that skates so well, sees the ice great, drives the play, patrols the blueline well, has a canon for a shot and plays nasty, what's not to like?
