Hickey has been great for us. Big fan. He has made great strides. I wouldnt put him in the Enstrom category though.

I wasn't. I was just naming top four defensemen on the smaller side.

Can someone definitely answer whether or not he is an RFA next year. I know there are some questions regarding the fact that he didn't play enough games to still be considered an RFA.

I can't comment on his FA status, but has there been any discussion on how much he could make on a signing after this season? Hamonic is also up for a new contract so it's a tough situation.

I think the player has to be 25 to qualify for UFA status, which applies if he has played less than 80 NHL games. So Strait would have been a UFA if he was not extended, but Hickey's 24, so he would be an RFA. Not 100% sure, but I believe that's the case.

I believe you are right. All this time I thought he was the same age as Strait but he's a year younger so he still will remain a RFA. That explains why they haven't rushed to sign him. They can just qualify him this summer. I don't think he's a guy who has much leverage. No one is going to throw him an offer sheet but I guess he could hold out and force a trade. Either way the Islanders will hold his rights so they would get something in return.

The Hickey/Vis combo definetly struggled last night with the size difference. So did the Streit/Strait combo. Harmonic/Amac heald their own.

Except the whole MacDonald bouncing off tuomo ruutu and lazily coasting and watching the play rather than getting back into the play.

It's been an issue all season long. This is exactly why I don't want them to face the Bruins in the 1st round.

Yea every time I talk about a player they always have bad games! Earlier in the year I was talking Hamonic up and he had his worst game as a pro Vs the Jets in Winnipeg.

I think Hickey has taken enormous strides during the season and has essentially pushed Carkner and Martinek down the pekcing order although they are very different players. Playing with Viz has helped him a lot and he looks calm and assured out there.

If Ennis is going to keep his head down like that at the blueline at his size he is only going to last a few more shifts in the NHL.

Does it bother anyone else that after his player gets high-sticked and then mugged, they show Cappy on the bench biting his fingernails? How about working the refs a little bit? That was technically a double-minor high stick for drawing blood, with a roughing penalty tacked on for the tackle/mugging afterwards. Cappy should have been calling for six minutes at minimum. Instead he looks like he's watching a scary movie. Holy innapropriate body language.

BTW, that was a punk move by Ennis. Hickey's hit was a 100% clean, textbook bodycheck. Ennis was probably mad that he got laid out by a guy not much bigger than him.

It's interesting that Hickey is likely to have another plus for the year on a team full of minus players. I know +/- is a flawed stat but I have a hard time believing that it is statistically insignificant. I'm starting to think Hickey might have a future on the team instead of a placeholder.

2015-16
Reinhardt-Hamonic
de Haan-Pulock
Hickey-Pokka

I think Hickey-Mayfield would be a solid bottom pairing.

But... But... He's short and stuff!!1!1

I never got the Hickey hate at all either. He's been nothing but solid for us ever since we claimed him with a couple bumps in the road, but let's be honest, this is his first actual full season, and he's proved to be a stable defenseman for us.

People like to rag on him because he didn't come up from our development system it seems like, and it's not fair to him because he's a good player.

I like that pairing a lot. If Mayfield sticks, it should make for an interesting battle between Pulock and Pokka for that last RD spot.

Hickey has a spot locked up on that bottom pairing as far as I'm concerned. Solid young defenseman.

If we had drafted him in the fourth round, we'd be giving the front office props for the pick. The Kings got egg on their face for taking him fourth overall, but I'm really happy we have him in our system.

Some people are stuck in the 90s and think every player has to be 6"3 with Lindros physicality.

+1. With a full support cast of big redwoods around him in another 2 years his size won't matter to anyone.

He's won me over. Plus I think he has just touched the tip of the iceberg offensively, I think he can score 35+ points a year plus add solid defense.
