Horton is not what this team needs.

Instead of Yandle has anyone thought at taking a shot at getting his teammate, Mark Stone? Seems like a good young defense man. Maybe getting away from OEL and Yandle might make him a step up guy.

At this point I would rather just wait to see who we draft. If we draft Ristolainen or someone of that caliber on defense, I don't see the point in trading. Also at this point I would not be upset if we just added Streit in Free Agency and let our other guys get healthy.

Timonen-Coburn
Streit-Schenn
Grossmann-Gus

I could live with that going into next season, especially if it keeps us from trading any of our young core

I think Streit is a bad idea. Considering his age and cost. I'd maybe say to suck up a year with what we have and then for the 2014-15 season, bring in Rist (after an extra year either overseas or in the AHL).

Timonen-Schenn
Coburn-Grossmann
Mez-Gus
Gervais

I really don't even want meszaros next year. He hasn't been able to stay healthy.

If he goes, I think it would be a throw up between Manning and Dane for the 6th spot.

His spot would need to be replaced most likely from outside the organization.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Flyers bring Jovo in if he gets bought out. Seems like fate that he plays a few months at least in Philly.

Gagne - Giroux - Voracek
Hartnell - Schenn - Read
Simmonds - Couturier - Laughton
Rinaldo - Hall - Talbot

McGinn/Akeson/Cousins

Streit - Schenn
Timonen - Coburn
Gustafsson - Grossmann

Ristolainen/Lauridsen/Konan

Mason
Somebody that doesn't suck

How much better is this lineup than what we had this year though?

This team's issues 5v5 were not only defense related, they were offense as well.

Here are the UFA forwards in the top 100 of even strength points:
------- Gms -- Pts -- PPG
Dupuis 46 33 0.72
Jagr 44 24 0.55
Cullen 40 23 0.58
Bickell 41 23 0.56
Ribeiro 46 22 0.48
Stalberg 46 21 0.46
Horton 43 21 0.49
Iginla 42 19 0.45
Koivu 46 19 0.41
Roy 40 19 0.48

The two names that stand out are Stalberg and Bickell. Does anyone have an opinion on whether one of these two could be like a Simmonds and succeed if given PP time? The first PP unit is set, but the second needs work and they could help 5v5.

I fully agree with that if the reports about Streit looking for a 3 year 5.5+M AAV contract are true. He would be good fit short term though.

But more than anything I'd question his motives. Why would Streit actually chose to join the Flyers? He plays on a very young rising team already.
If he moves, it will most likely be for a better shot at the cup on a Veteran contender or for the big money. The Flyers are just not a very good fit for him.

I do really like Stalberg, he just has something about him. Bickell not so much, never a point producer at any level unlike Stalberg.

I do think both are inflated slightly due to being on that Blackhawks team, get really easy minutes, their QOC is below -1. Neither are fantastic defensively either IMO.

Imagine if Dupuis left Pittsburgh to come here. That'd make Jagr, Talbot and Dupuis as guys their fanbase would absolutely villify.

Dupuis is going to get paid, and I don't think the Flyers will want to pay him that type of money. Rightfully so too.

Get no different of minutes then most 3rd liners

Neither has spent much if any time in top 6 this year as well

Bickell-Shaw-Stalberg has been the 3rd line most of season (Handzus at times drawn in as 3rd line C since he was acquired as well)

Not entirely... most teams 3rd lines are at around 0.5 to -0.5 QOC. Their average QOC is ~-1.4. Only Carcillo has easier mins on the whole team than those three. Obviously being a very good team can slightly skew this, but by no more that 0.5. They get the easiest mins on the team as a line.

I think only L.A, possibly San Jose have comparable QOC average mins in the whole NHL for a third line.

Just watched the Boston strong opening clip from the game against Boston and was thinking I really want to have these kids upfront stay here and get engrained in the city and go though bs and disappointment so they know what it feels like and will play all that much harder to win a cup for us. I think if we trade them and get some more established pieces you miss out on that. For example you know richie came to play the year we went to the finals every home game because he was here for so long he played that much harder listening to his fans the flyers traditions. With guys like g Simmonds jake schenn and even couts they are all very competitive seemingly loyal guys that could all be that Ritchie level that we will need to win a cup

Is there any interest at Dan Boyle at 50% salary from the Sharks?

I'd say yes. How much to acquire him?

(I feel like I'm taking part in some illicit NHL prostitution ring.)

I say no cause the price wouldn't be worth it.

Just a thought from a guy that doesn't follow contracts as much as he should: is there any way we could get Bobby Ryan in this offseason or the next one? I know he has ties to the area as he was born in Cherry Hill which could help out.

He's a free agent after next year. I rather not trade for him right now because he's a bit of a luxury at this point. Anyway there's no guarantee he'll test free agency but if he does I like our chances in landing him.

Bobby Ryan still has two years left after this year. He isn't a free agent until after the 2014-2015 season. I can see why the Flyers want to make a move for him.

I could easily see the Flyers taking one of the top ranked centers in this draft with the 8th(or wherever we pick) and trading Couts for Ryan. Not saying I agree with the move, but I could see it happening.
