One option would be to take one of the lesser arena models without the winter garden. Then see what $ are needed.

They went through these options a few months ago and the finding was that one of the options saved the city $5 million and another saved the city $2 million.

Agreed. Take out the useless vanity crap and the cost should go down.

Probably should just retro fit Rexall then.

Why improve something in the city.

Yes

Lets retrofit a non-NHL caliber building down to a 15k seat non-NHL caliber building with 200 million taxpayer dollars.

Brilliant plan.

You guys realize a retro fit will cost tax payers the same right? Katz won't put a dime into it. This city deserves its crap downtown and our crap reputation.

I can't believe how many people keep bringing up renovating rexall. From the nhl perspective it's a non starter.

They should do that even if they don't build an arena

Ah but Tax burdens are shared by all. No one has the right to descriminate against anyone because they happen to drive a dually

It's the risk you take driving an oversized vehicle.

What if the weight requirements force you into a dually? Should you be charged more?

Parking space is a precious thing. Larger vehicles require more space = less money for the lot.

Anyways I said it in jest, I know they'll never do something like that. Just looking for ways to recoup the 50million

I really can't imagine why anybody would think an arena would transform a city in any significant way.

Plus theres nothing mediocre about Edmonton or its economy in the first place.

To say that this is a tipping point in Edmontons future is beyond the pale.

Theres precious little significance to this actually.

Maybe this arena deal needs some more thought.
I almost got attacked by a gang of thugs while jogging near this bat; bad bat memories for me!

It's time for Sir Daryl to dig deeper into his billionaire pockets and fund the remainder of this project. He's sucked enough tax payers money out of us, so when the going gets tough, take the initiative, be a man and pony up to get this show on the road.

Just. Do. It. Already.

It's the Edmonton way. Complain about something. Do the cheapest option and then 10 years later do it all over again but this time at double the cost.

You'd have to give some examples.
But its actually the Katz way. Produce a terrible product, rip the consumer off, & then use other peoples monies to build your palace. All the while reneging on commitments & threatening your constituents.
Yup, hes sure got the corporate welfare spirit.
