He was all over the place. Imagine a not lazy fast Briere.

He looked good. Played well in the neutral zone. Didn't look too much like a rookie IMO.

I think it's a little unfair to say they didn't show up. They just weren't as good as we all expected, but it wasn't for a lack of effort. We all know we are loaded with young forwards and had a team last year that saw many guys have career years. Injuries to your veteran forwards obviously didn't help. I think the season would have been drastically different if we had a #1 PMD obviously and it wasn't like we didn't go hard after Weber or Suter in the offseason. Early in the year when the team simply wasn't playing well I thought Bryz was our best player for a stretch, granted that didn't last too long and he was average most of the year.

I thought this team fought all year long and tried to win each and every night.

You make it sound like we go from 7th or wherever we were entering the night to not having a pick at all in the first round. I remember the last time the Flyers had a bad season where we were the worst team in the NHL. I think I recall us winning the lottery and drafting a player that scored the game winning goal in the Stanley Cup Finals. Oh...Wait. We're going to end up with a good player and there's really no debating that. Maybe the player you personally had a crush on in that 7th spot falls, MAYBE we win the lottery? Get over it. The Flyers came out and fought their hardest when they "could only end up hurting the organization". Please, that's embarrassing. You can really build a great organization full with players who are okay with throwing in the towel and saying, eh maybe we have a better chance at drafting a better 18 year old kid who will solve our problem.

I'm confused. How do you expect the team to successfully tank? Wouldn't that require the message in the locker room to be "go out there and lose this game"?

Losing mentality.

It's one thing if you are the Penguins circa 2003 and have no core pieces moving forward. But I don't want that type of message to be uttered anywhere near players like Brayden Schenn, Sean Couturier, and Steve Mason. These are guys who need to learn how to win games. Under no circumstances can losing be acceptable for young players who are still learning what it takes to be successful in this league.

As for Mason, he gets to go into his off season as the Flyers late season MVP. Games like these are huge for the confidence of young goaltenders. To end the season with a stellar performance like this will go a long way. I'm not saying a loss would have killed his confidence, but a win (in this fashion) will greatly increase his confidence level-- and goaltending is all about confidence.

I think all those things outweigh whatever potential difference between the 8th pick and the 12th (if any).

Jake and G. Prob made him look better. Was back checking hard and was great in neutral zone. 2 biggest things that stood out to me.

He even did the fist pump. I had the sound off and thought it was Briere who had scored .

Maybe the Hart, but I still think he gets the Vezina. He's the reason the Jackets got as close as they did.

and his defense was supposed to be suspect, must have worked hard on it, but to be put on the first line, must say Lavi liked what he saw

Clement said Akeson reminded him of Joey Mullen. He said their styles are very similar.

Yep, but I think we end up with Zadorov there as Nichushkin will likely be gone in the single digits

Giving Mason five to six months to bask in the performance he's put on thus far will be a major step in his development. Securing Mason's confidence (and Couturier, Schenn, Schenn, etc. no less) is much, much more important than whatever difference is between the 8th and 12th spots in the draft.
These are my feelings as well. While I'm disapointed in our new draft position, I can still see the positives of winning when it doesn't matter

Glad I got to enjoy a win for the last game of the season
