Assuming Crosby comes back for round 1 - how could he not - the lines constructed tonight are complete bad ass with the lone exception of the 4th line. The 4th line is really pedestrian and you need the 4th line to contribute offensively in the playoffs.
Insert Crosby, move Jokinen to the 4th, and get Kennedy to the press box where he belongs. Bennett can be inserted for Glass. Boom - fourth line that's better than some teams' 3rd lines, 3rd line better than some teams' 2nd lines, and dominant two 1st lines.
PK-wise, there's no reason Jokinen can't pick up Glass's PK duties. He'll win faceoffs and he knows his way around a PK. I saw DB trying him there tonight and from what I saw, he looked completely competent.
Goodbye to a largely great regular season. Some kind of exclamation point that third period.
Big story of the night: Kunitz Malkin Neal. Money. Malkin looked awesome and The Hunter was back to sniping. Kunitz doing all the little things those two need.
Lots of positives from the Jokinen and Sutter lines too, and it was nice to have Martin back there looking the most defensively aware of any Pens D-man by a country mile.
1: Despres insuring that he won't see time in the playoffs unless for injury - and unlike most of the season, going by tonights performance he doesn't deserve to play either.
2: The fourth line is just terrible. To think that Beau will sit for Glass or Kennedy is just outrageous.
3: Iginla conondrum. One thing is that Dan must help him out by playing him on his strong wing. Second is that he cannot just lose every battle on the wall.
4: Letang defensively. Out of position so much it isn't funny. He is super dynamic offensively, but we are not going all the way with Letang playing this undisciplined in his own zone, because he will be playing above 25 minutes every night.
5: Who is not slightly worried that Fleury goes into the playoffs having given up three goals in three consecutive games? I mean, I still see the Montreal and Philly series in my minds eye, and I really don't want to add another to the collection. Some great saves bailing out atrocious D in the first two periods, but also one or two iffy ones just like in the last two games.
Anyway, great game offensively.... but the Canes also sucked in their own zone, must be said. So, so many weapons for Bylsma.... hope he gets it right.... or close enough to right. If he starts out by keeping Malkin's line intact, drops the present 4th line and plays Iginla on the right side whoever his linemate, we will be a long way.
I think it's pretty clear you're going to see TK sit when Sid comes back. If you could only get rid of Glass, you could make a defensively responsible 4th line.
The fourth line has been a defensive fiasco all season long, they simply cannot expect to run Adams/Glass/TK out there against playoff teams and not expect to give up 1-2 goals a night. Especially on the road.
Did anyone notice Morrow killing penalties tonight? Could that possibly mean we might see Glass sit?
