But I know, you are still made we didn't give that money to elite defender Wisniewski.

Markov was sensational tonight. Smart plays all over the place. Just a joy to watch.

He finishes the season 4th in points for a defenseman and 4th in the entire league in PPP.

4th.

I mean, 3 entire guys finished with more points than him? There's even a 23 years old black guy amongst them?!?

Send him via rickety bus to Wheeling. Nao.

(Adding . In case.)

I do find it pretty cool that everyone was saying he was done, injury prone, not able to come back, yet he ended up 5th on the team in points and was one of only 6 guys to play in all 48 games.

Whatever flaws he now has he managed to get what would be over 50 points playing top pairing minutes and not missing a game. I just can't believe people would downplay this, he should not be used as a top pairing guy anymore but as Habs fans we should be nothing but proud of him.

Does anyone realize how rare 50 point defenders are in the NHL nowadays?

Markov has become a powerplay superstar, a sensational first pairing D if playing with Subban and a very good 2nd pairing D if playing with Emelin. Definitely a keeper

Well there was:
  • 4 in 2011-12;
  • 6 in 2010-11;
  • 7 in 2009-10;
  • 12 in 2008-9 (Markov was second with 64 points);
  • 11 in 2007-8 (Markov was 6th).

This season, Markov was only 4th behind Subban, Letang and Suter.
It seems he is the fourth player behind 3 Norris contender.

So basically, to answer your question, there was 8 d-men near/over the 50 points pace: Subban, Letang, Suter, Markov, Yandle, Kronwall, Timonen, Franson.

For a 34 years old d-men, he is doing pretty well. Only Timonen can be compared.
This is the first full season he has.
So we need to see if we can have better for the Scap...

Markov give us a pretty good performance for the money we put in him.

There is a remaining constant with Markov: d-men playing with him have great numbers.
Streit, Souray and Subban got much better scoring playing with him...

These d-men got better numbers playing with him and most of the time, Markov was the second best in scoring...

I would put it differently

After Streit and Souray, PK Subban is the third D-men to have great numbers playing with Markov.
PK has 26 PP points playing with Markov.

By playing with Markov, PK became a Norris contender (23 PP points).

This shows how good Markov is.

Just to bring thing back in perspective: last season Karlsson got 78 points, Gonchar got 37.
The only thing that compare to this is Lidstrom having 71 points while Duchesne had 25 points back in 2000-01...
And Karlsson has a 6.5M cap hit for the next 7 years...
Should Subban have more than Karlsson?

This summer, PK should sign for a 5 year extension at 5-6M.
He is that good.

Markov is still a smart, reliable player. They just need to give him less minutes. He got slower, he'll readjust his game in consequence. I think he'll be a good mentor to Subban, and will assist him greatly if he sticks around with the Habs. I'd love for him to retire with them.
