Huberdeau or Brodin, likely. They need the attention on some American franchises. They can't be dishing out hardware to Canadian clubs. We already know Yakupov is awesome... we don't need an injection of hockey news in the summer like a Miami/Florida might with Huberdeau winning the Calder.

Writers vote on the Calder it isn't handed out by the league.

Huberdeau, Gallagher, or Conacher are going to win because Eastern writers have seen them play.

Brodin deserves it on merit. If there were 35 games left for Yak to distance himself in the scoring lead, I think he'd have taken it. Sadly, there's only one game left and a lot of the votes have already been cast.

Really? Put Brodin with Nick Shultz and JS with Suter and see what happens.

The media absolutely HATES Edmonton.

They actually despise the city of Edmonton. They never miss an opportunity to smear Edmonton, and they ESPECIALLY revel in taking jabs at the franchise.

Having lived out east for 7 years now, I can honestly say the only way an Oiler rookie ever wins the Calder, is in an un-ignore-able significant landslide victory.

There is a VERY heavy anti-Oiler bias in the media.

there is one thing to remember when it comes to yakupov and him not winning the calder--

Yakupov has done most of his damage from the 3rd line-- he is getting an average of 14minutes a game--wait till he is getting 20

Unfortunately Yaks would have to have at least a 5 goal lead and 10 assist lead.

Its not going to happen.

yeah, yakupov playing 20 mins/night on the top-6 in 2-3 years from now is going to be a sight-to-behold IMO... still think he has the highest goal scoring ceiling of any player we have now, or have had in the last 15 years... not only does he have just a *ridiculous* shot, he is more than than willing to go to the tough areas to score... he needs to float to the open areas a bit more on the PP so he can unleash his one-timer more often... if he ever figures that part out, he could be a 40+ guy for the next decade (i'm not kidding)

umm really? because before this year, all i heard about was how the oilers were the youngest, fastest and most exciting team in the nhl.

we're definitely not hated on, we're more ignored in the east

I don't get why everyone is so high on Brodin. I didn't see much last night. I would give the Calder to Shultz over him.

Just think of it as sports writers giving Ryan Suter a belated rookie of the year award.

It'll finish:

1. Brodin
2. Saad
3. Yak/Gallagher

No seriously, what has Brodin done? Nobody has answered that question.

I agree. Yakupov should be more like Kane. Hear that Edmonton cabbies? You better watch out.

I was half asleep when I posted that, twas Parise that kicked not Kane. But like you said, Kane is still a fine example of Don Cherry "class"!

Don Cherry is a bigot, big surprise guys.

Huberdeau with another 2 points tonight, unless Nail gets 3, I don't think he's going to win.

Writers turned in their ballots already.

Yak could get 10 points tonight, and it wouldn't make a difference

Which, if you think about it, is insanely stupid, and almost negligent in this case.

Yak won't win

You don't get noticed in the east unless you are in the all-star game, go deep in the playoffs, or are super high on the stats lists.

The regular season doesn't finish until tomorrow, so I don't see how the PHWA could have already submitted their ballots.

Well, Yak finishes with 5 in his final 2 games and wins rookie scoring race. he may not win the Calder, but, with what we seen this year, is there any other rookie you'd rather have?

not a chance. I'd bet anyone he ends up the best of this bunch.
