Tim Thomas wants to play for Flyers in '13-14. (Mod Warning Post #63)

There is a rumor that Thomas wants to play for the Flyers in 2013-2014. When he announced he was taking the yr off, his agent said he wanted to come back in 2013-2014, for a chance at making Team USA.

Snow traded a conditional 2nd to Boston for TT's rights. If he plays 1 game for the isles in either 2012-2013 or in 2013-2014, the Bruins get the NYI 2nd rounder. Snow has said he made the TT trade to make sure he'd be cap compliant all season and according to Newsday, Snow doesn't plan on tolling 39 yr old Thomas' contract. That would make Thomas a ufa this summer. I can't see any team giving up a 2nd rounder for TT on a crowded goalie market, making it worth Snow's trouble to trade him, instead of just letting him become a ufa.

Philly just gave Mason a 2 yr extension and the press is reporting, that the Flyers don't plan on buying out Bryz this sumnmer. The want to give him another yr. I don't see a spot for Thomas in Philly. But, his coming back would add another quality goalie, to a crowded market.

For what's it worth, i heard this week Tim Thomas wants to play for Flyers in '13-14. Also heard Flyers recently discussed Ryan Miller

I think some team will sign him as a ufa, at a cheap salary.
He wants to impress Team USA execs., so he has plenty of incentive to come to camp in good shape and play well.

Some team will sign Thomas---Edmonton comes to mind if Khabbi retires.

Problem is Philly already has Mason and Bryzgalov.

Also, I'm pretty sure the NHL confirmed that NY Islanders cannot toll Thomas' contract for next year.

Replacing a 40 year old goalie with a 39 year old. The logic sounds flawless.

But in all honesty, the net should and will be Dubnyk's next year

Really the Caps? Take the first four games off of Holtby's record and he save % for the season is just under .930%

Is there any reason to think the flyers would be interested in paying him? Tim Thomas hasn't made a super vast fortune by NHL standards so I have to think he'll basically go to the high bidder at the end of the day. Would it make sense Tampa to try 5-6 million for a year and hope he's still on top of his game?
(I say Tampa just because the are 26th in goals against and 3rd in offense so maybe Thomas could make a big difference )

Tim Thomas and the Philly media, where do I sign up for all the post-game pressers

This won't happen though in my opinion, although I guess Snider was willing to give 27 million in one calender year to Weber, still cannot imagine him forking over what it would take to buy out Bryz right now just to no longer play hockey for him.

No way he comes to Philly. We have Bryz who I dont think they will buy out, hopefully they buyout Briere, and Mason who has played great with the Flyers giving us a worse draft spot yay!

Leafs don't need him and he wouldn't be accepted in Toronto.

I don't think the NHL said the Isles can't toll the contract. I believe the NHL said if the Isles do toll the contract and Thomas doesn't play again then the age 35+ rule that Thomas still counts against the salary cap (as he did in 2012-2013) will no longer be in effect for 2013-2014.

Following from that, if one believes the Isles have Thomas solely for cap reasons then there's no incentive for the team to toll him for 2013-2014.

It would be fitting that he ended his career in a goalie graveyard.

Mason only got a one year deal, but he looks like the future after stoning Ottawa last night.

If they buy out Bryz, I would take Thomas on a one-year deal. Provided part of his contract was appearing at the White House in the unlikely event the Flyers won the Cup.

Snow said the night of the trade, he wasn't tolling TT contract.

Thomas will be a ufa, able to sign with anyone in July.

TT brushed aside a $3m payday, by sitting out this season.

I would be surprised if he's looking for a huge payday at 39 yrs old. I would guess he wants to play for Philly becausehe expects them to bounce back next season and would take $3m.

With the cap dropping $6m, I doubt any team gives a rusty TT $5m-$6m in salary.

I don't see how he's going to make team USA. If he wanted to do that he shouldn't of taken a year out. Very few teams will be interested due to his age. Only those with a young back-up or young starter would be interested I think.

He thinks he's going to come back after taking a year off, make Sochi, and be a starter. They'd probably give him a shot in Philly, but I'm not sure if he's even been working out and training or not. Either way, he hasn't played in a year and he's going to be 40. Good luck...
