Stewart – we need to see what kind of impact player he can be in the playoffs. I don't suggest Armstrong would move him for less than a team improvement, but he needs to show something in the playoffs IMO for a case to be made for hiim to stay longer-term.

Some would argue that Statsny isn't what this team needs.

I'm not saying I agree, though.

Agreed. I hope his back-to-back 2 point games sparks another unstoppable streak.

Thoughts on Vanek? I know his contract isn't great but if we could afford it would you guys want him and what would you give up?

Really like him, but with our limited funds, we need to go after a center before anything else.

Haha, one downside of the Bouwmeester thing is that guys on bad contracts who we'd formerly dismiss for discussion purposes as ineligible due to their bad contract suddenly become topics of discussion. Really don't see this May and June being any fun at all discussing guys we should trade to acquire.

You'd think it would be the opposite since we should assume there isn't much room in the budget.

It's not just you, it'll be everywhere. Offseason is always fantasy time, now it'll get more fantasy-esque as opposed to recent previous offseasons because of the Bouwmeester contract, which ironically makes it less likely they're going to go out and take on another bloated contract. People illogically interpret as more likely.

Alls I know is, we're probably going to hit Part 6 by puck drop tonight.

I don't know, I think it will be much less annoying than simply dismissing every single player since we "can't afford them".

Only negative I see about the JayBo trade is that we lose a 1st rounder in one of the deepest drafts in recent memory.

It depends. A guy on an expensive contract of fair value is different than the deluge of forwards/goalies who are overpaid by 1M-4M who will be suggested.

If Edmonton takes Mackinnon, does RNH become available?

So P9s mentioned something about Tarasenko -perhaps- getting traded in a EJ type blockbuster, and it got me thinking. Truthfully, it makes a lot of sense. If you look at our team as currently constructed, we obviously have a ton of wingers, especially (If Jaskin stays a RW) Right Wingers. Currently we have:

Oshie
Stewart
Tarasenko
Reaves
Cracknell
Jaskin
Rattie

Our left side isn't as potent, especially if we all assume AMac walks at the end of the year. We basically have:

Steen
Perron
Schwartz
Porter
Sobotka if needed

Looking at both of these lists, it's pretty obvious that we're not going to trade a LW unless we get a LW back in addition to that C we all so desperately crave. This leaves RW as our primary position to deal from. I don't think we give up either Oshie or Stewart, unless we feel really comfortable Jaskin can turn into a similar player in the next year, which is highly unlikely. Reaves and Cracknell aren't going to bring a huge return. This leaves us with Jaskin, Rattie, and Tarasenko. Out of the three of them Tarasenko is the most likely to bring the biggest return, now that his one huge draft question mark (Will he come to North America) has been answered.

Does this logic seem to make sense?

Also, if Tarasenko -is- the centerpiece to that #1 C, who do we want to go after?

Personally, I don't want to trade him, I think he's going to be a stud, I'd rather wait another year and see if we can pick up a rental at the deadline for pennies on the dollar before I go trading Tarasenko.

Still think it's a little early to give up on Tarasenko. His first 5 games or so were electrifying. He was absolutely unreal. EJ had been pretty meh for a while before he was traded. If he brings back a young, stud 1C, I'd consider it. Anything less, I want to hang onto him because I think he's got a pretty solid chance at being a 70 point winger.

In response to a post above, Jaskin appears to be a LW in our plans. That's where he played with us, and that's where he played this season in juniors.

He has been quoted saying he prefers the right, and he also played on the right when he played for us. I have no clue where he played in juniors.

Not a chance Tarasenko gets traded before any of our other wingers.
