The Memorial Cup is a round robin style tournament between the 4 teams. It would be a great series though if it were possible.

I'll say it's London(OHL), Halifax(QMJHL), Portland(WHL), and Saskatoon(WHL). It has some potential to be a great tournament this year Saskatoon.

It was actually the Armada's 4th stringer, as the 1st and 2nd were suspended, and the 3rd got injured. And the OT winner, unfortunately, was off an obvious offside missed call.

Akeson was very noticeable and in a good way especially considering he only had about 12 minutes of ice time. I'm not too sure he makes the team out of camp cause there aren't many spots open (unless there is a drastic change ) but I do think he'll be on the short list of call-ups next season. I've been following him since signed and I was especially impressed with his work ethic (specifically working on his play in his own zone) so needless to say I'm happy for him.

Yeah, Akeson is really one of my favorite prospects on a personal note.

I'm really pleased with his outing, and I hope he can turn some heads in the upcoming years to catch a gig in the top 6.

That said...

Akeson - Giroux - Voracek
Hartnell - Couturier - Schenn
Simmonds - Laughton - Read
Rinaldo - Hall - Talbot

...is a pretty badass offensive lineup.

In the AHL...

Akeson hasn't proven anything more than he's a good AHL player. Couturier and Schenn have proven they're not ready to handle the load at this point in time (we're hoping that changes). Laughton's played 5 games in the NHL, and that fourth-line might net a combined 40 points if we're lucky (they scored 15 for the Flyers this season). All in all, if we go into next season with that group, I'm looking at another run to mediocrity.

Your lineup is far more likely...

However...Talbot should not be on the 3rd line...

Akeson has never been given the opportunity to see if he can be an NHL player. Couturier and Schenn suffered through a bad sophomore season (not like that's ever happened to players before) and while Laughton only played five games, he more than held his own in a limited role.

As for going into next season with that lineup, I'm more than comfortable with it. It's about letting the younger players grow into their roles and if it means the team is going to be mediocre while they get better, then those are the lumps you take. The team needs to allow these young players to play.

lol it took one game for someone to pencil Akeson in as a top-line forward for next year

that's hilarious, though not surprising seeing as who it comes from

Actually, I've been doing it for a while now...

We have one forward slot open in the top 9 next year (possibly two if Laughton becomes the 4th line center).

I see that slot as an open competition between Gagne, McGinn, Flanagan, Akeson, and Cousins at the moment. If we sign somebody or re-sign Gagne, I think that cements the argument, but there is definitely a wing position open.

What's hilarious is the idiotic overreactions that the slightest analytical comment creates here on HFBoards.

Actually, on second thought, it's not really hilarious. It's just kind of depressing that human nature is so far from ideal.

I'd LOVE to bring Gagne back, but if we decide to give Akeson more of a chance, then how about this:

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Couturier-Simmonds
Akeson-Laughton-Read
Talbot-xxxx-Rinaldo

The only reason I penciled onto the top line was because that's where Gagne was playing (so theoretically the position open for grabs) and because he has chemistry with Giroux (obviously offseason training as well as his skill level which makes that line ridiculously slick where passing ability is concerned).

I would be fine him on the 3rd line though, particularly with Laughton and Read if not Couturier and Read. They would help him out defensively.

Another point I want to make is that I don't necessarily know whether or not Hartnell will be on the top line next year.

So basically, if Akeson makes the team, the possibilities are:

Hartnell - Giroux - Voracek
Simmonds - Couturier - Schenn
Akeson - Laughton - Read
Rinaldo - Hall - Talbot

Akeson - Giroux - Voracek
Hartnell - Couturier - Schenn
Simmonds - Laughton - Read
Rinaldo - Hall - Talbot

Laughton - Giroux - Voracek
Hartnell - Schenn - Read
Simmonds - Couturier - Gagne
Rinaldo - Hall - Talbot

Gagne - Giroux - Voracek
Hartnell - Schenn - Read
Simmonds - Couturier - Akeson
Rinaldo - Laughton - Talbot

etc...

Schenn would need to show considerably better ability toplay his game from the wing. I wanted very much for him to convert to wing this season, but it was night and day difference when he played C this season.

It's a long offseason. He'll get a chance to work on his D this summer.

He'll get a look in camps, and unless something drastic happens, he'll be sent down to be one of the leaders on the Phantoms' roster.

That's fine. Let Cousins develop.

I just can't wait until Rinaldo and Cousins are on the same team. The main board will have a meltdown every game.

Oh god...

Can you imagine the awesomeness of...

Rinaldo - Cousins - McGinn

Those three are dressed for war every night. It would be entertaining to say the least.

I can just think of the threads now.

"Rinaldo: Can we please ban him because he hits people?"

"Cousins: Brian Burke was right get these rats out of here!"

"McGinn: I dislike his hair"

Yeah that last one sucked.

Baie-Comeau won 4-0 tonight. Straka didn't record any points. BC wins the series 4-2 and moves on the to QMJHL Finals to play Halifax.

So that now makes a Flyer prospect in each league in the CHL in the Finals.

Portland (Leier) - WHL
London (Stolarz) - OHL
Baie-Comeau (Straka) -QMJHL

Put Laughton at Center there and Cousins on the wing. Ridiculous.
