I think you have to rank the last 4 Cup winners in the upper tier by themselves. They are all built to win now and have already proven themselves before.
Blues and Rangers. Teams who are similarly built to the top tier and have some playoff success under their belts to make the next move.
Canucks, Capitals, Sharks, Red Wings. Teams whose time I think has come and went but they could still be dangerous and go a couple rounds deep.
Ducks and Canadiens. Teams that are playing above their heads but could still be dangerous and have some measure of success.
Senators. Sort of a wildcard for me. I don't think they deserve to be mentioned with the Ducks and Canadiens, but they are clearly going to be a very tough out and could be a wildcard to advance a round.
Maple Leafs, Islanders, Wild. I'd be surprised if they won a round.
Lol why are the Ducks so low on everyone's list, i think they have a great chance at the cup.
We suck. Our goalies suck. Our defense sucks. Boudreau is fat. Getzlaf is playing for a new contract. Perry is playing for a new contract. Fowler can't play D. Beauchemin who? Souray isn't dead yet? Their only good player is the mighty Bobby Ryan. Unsustainable shooting percentage. Rah rah rah.

pretty much like everyone else, 1-2 are the favorites 3-7 all have a good shot, 8-11 have a solid chance, 12-16 have a very small shot, but everyone can win.

Chicago - Season record says it all. And St. Louis, Detroit and Columbus are pretty good, so that was no walk in the park.
Los Angeles - To be the best, you gotta beat the best. And LA is starting with a team they always beat. If LA gets momentum again, look out. And they beat Chicago at home this season.
Pittsburgh - Only reason I put them under the two above is that they looked good in the regular season against so so NYI, OK NYR, bad NJ and worse PHI. Typical President's Trophy disaster scenario (I realize they didn't win it, but you know where I'm going with it). Getting Crosby back will help, though. Hopefully they have more defense than last year.
Boston - Elite when they want to be
Anaheim - Look at their record. Not as good lately (in the last 15 or so), but still a force
San Jose - Good combination of speed, size, skill, defense, goaltending
Vancouver - San Jose might have their number
Washington - Got hot at the right time
Montreal - Pretty small team that will probably have trouble surviving multiple rounds
Rangers - Too many injuries to survive the first round. But if they do and get those guys back...
Detroit - Just not the same without Lidstrom
Toronto - Maybe next year, but they need a playoff year under their belt
Ottawa - Surprised they even made the playoffs, TBH
Islanders - Not enough scoring, defense, center play, 3rd line, basically everything you need to win
St. Louis - Because they have been swept by the Kings for over a year now. Horrible first round matchup for them.
Minnesota - Because they're playing Chicago and not playing well right now.
Pens were 22-3-0 vs 7 other playoff teams in East this season and they were 1-3 vs the Devils, lol.
