I llike the MDZ+1st, Nino+1st (want a smidge more)... and I like that Carolina counteroffer of 1st+Rask+Dwyer.

I'm more interested in a move like #4 and Spaling from Nashville.

Maybe Nill will do something crazy like Eriksson and Goligoski to Detroit for a big pile of his favourite prospects....

My fellow Ranger fans live in dreamland. Loui Eriksson is a RW. The Rangers couldn't find a fit for Gaborik with Nash and Callahan on the roster so lets trade for another RW. Makes sense. The Rangers don't have their #1 pick this June so lets trade another #1 pick. Then they criticize Rangers management.

Don't see Dallas trading Eriksson in the division to St. Louis.

However, to play along, given that the OP is asking for defense, center or winger, the Blues would have to trade a winger if it happened. Perron + Schmaltz, something like that.

Loui has very similar (I'd say a tad bit more) value compared to Jeff Carter due to their similar offensive production, his better two way game, and no lifestyle or attitude problems that Carter exhibited in Philly and Columbus respectively. Carter had 10 years at 5.2 per left on his contract at the time of the first trade. 3 years of Loui at 4.25 is probably a wash compared to Carter's contract situation. Carter returned Voracek + 8th overall + 3rd round pick from Columbus and Jack Johnson + 1st from LA.

Some packages that would be similar to those would include

Skinner + 5th overall from CAR (Stars would probably have to add)

or

Gagner + 7th overall + ? from EDM

or

Shattenkirk + 1st round pick + ? from STL

or

Del Zotto + 1st round pick + ? from NYR

What do other people think or other teams want to offer for Loui?

If the new GM is Nill from Detroit, then Loui is not going anywhere!

We don't have a 3rd in 2013.

I think the 9th overall + Merrill would be plenty.

He's a left handed LW and an incredible player on a good contract for three more seasons. He plays a good two-way game and produces consistently. I'm not saying we have to make this deal, but trading a dman like MDZ with a first from next year is a pretty understandable price to pay for a LW of this caliber.

Would love him on the leafs flanking Kadri. Not sure we have what it takes. Something around Gardiner and a 1st with more added on is what I am guessing.

Oilers will only trade Gagner if they are getting a center in return that would be considered an upgrade. Loui is a great player but not the kind Edmonton is looking for.

Great player but there are many more pressing problems for the Oilers.

It'd have to be a 2014 1st from the Rangers, but, certainly not unreasonable. Would be a yes from me.

I think the best bet is to trade into the top 4, probably with Nashville.

Nashville would have to add, but I don't know anything about their prospects, so I can't estimate who they would have to add.

Would Josi + 4th overall be an overpayment for Loui? I know people are really high on him. Is that enough coming back our way? I have no idea lol

At the same time, not sure I like trading within the new conference/division. Not sure I would want to play against him

Nashville has the chance to get a big, two-way #1C (Barkov) whom they need desperately with #4. I don't see them trading it.

Something around #5 and Eriksson to Carolina does make some sense, however.

Semin-E. Staal-Tlusty
Skinner-J. Staal-Eriksson

That would be one of the best top-6s in the league, hands down. Eriksson would be the ideal winger for Jordan IMHO.

The drop from 4-5 is pretty big in terms of value. Carolina would have to add something.

Something small, maybe, but not Skinner or anything similar to Skinner.

No reason to trade a top-line forward for a different top-line forward. They'd like to add one, not make a lateral move.

Josi played on our top pairing all season, and didn't look all that out of place. We figure he's our #2-#3 going forward. Too much for us to give up. I really like Eriksson, but I don't see us moving the 4th for him straight up. If he was a center, different story perhaps, but this is the Preds one chance to get that young center to build the offense around. Unless, of course, we win the lottery, and our fans' heads collectively explode when Poile drafts Jones.
