Barkov or Lindholm are likely our worst-case and an outside chance of still landing MacKinnon. I'm good with that

thats not a given at all... the lottery could change that, or or colorado or tampa might be willing to trade down one slot or two

We likely won't get Mac or Drouin (barring a lottery miracle), but you never know. There's always a suprise or two on draft day. All it takes if for one or two teams to really like different players, or someone to be willing to trade down.

Unfortunately, if the draft order stays the same, I don't see the Preds being able to trade up. What incentive does Florida have other than an overpayment?

Colorado is in our division now, so why hand MacKinnon to us?

Drouin would be nice to grab, but at that point Barkov would be just fine and fill a hole in the lineup that has been there for 15 years.

Similarly if a team behind the Preds wins, Lindholm would also be very welcomed here as opposed to an overpayment.

If we come out of this draft with Mack, drouin or barkov I'm happy. Anything else not so much.

Here's what we need.

1) Offensive center
2) Mobile defensive defenseman (Hamhuis, Klein type)
3) Speedy wingers

I'm not a scout, I can't pick the players with confidence, I just hope this is addressed through the draft/offseason.

I think we end up with Barkov and I am excited about it. Really hope no one outside the top 4 wins the lottery.

Top 5 is a lock, #1 10.7%,

So it's either 1, 4, or 5.

Unless Poile trades the picks, it should be a forward. If Poile even thinks about drafting Nurse, part of me would be ok depth wise. A LARGE part of me would buy Viqsi a new computer to go and set him on fire.

Agreed.

If we don't trade up for Mack, then lets take bark for sure! He is going to be something special.

Everyone break out any good luck mojo you have left - let's win the lottery or watch as Florida, Tampa, or Colorado win it tomorrow.

The lottery teams are set. Colorado and Florida both need defense. Tampa does, as well, though they will likely go after a forward since MSL and Vinny are getting up there in age.

But then again, I don't expect a similar result as last draft when the top 5 had 3 defensemen drafted. Last year's pre-draft rankings had 9 D in the top 20 skaters. This year I think it is 5.

It'd be nice to see Colorado surprise people and take Nurse, though I still think Tampa would take Mac over Drouin.

Of course this is assuming that Florida wins the lottery.

On the prospect boards, there's appears to be talk of Nichushkin heading up the charts. I think we can easily see MaC/Drouin fall to 4th or even 5th. Overall, the thought of MaC, Drouin, Barkov, or Lindholm all makes me happy.

I just hope poile doesn't say,
Hey we already have forsberg, why not get Lindholm to play with him?! And then pass on barkov to do so. I think that would be a massive mistake. But something I wouldn't totally rule out....

Lindholm will be good but barkov is such a rare talent.

Yeah, but look at it this way - we beat Calgary last week. Wasn't that awesome and totally worth not getting Drouin or MacKinnon?

Imagine all the momentum we're going into the offseason with thanks to that win and the good feelings the fan base will be able to have this summer thanks to that big win! (actual arguments I've seen on here).

get over yourself already.... even if it would have been better for our draft position to have lost it is totally f**ked up to whine and complain about it after the fact

wins were few and far between this year and that one should be enjoyed, not bemoaned. we went 1-9-1 our last 11 games for crying out loud... even the crappiest of teams occasionally win one...

if it turns out that both guys taken above us are Ovechkin/Toewes awesome and our pick ends up as the next Daigle, then you can curse the hockey gods, but dont be pissed that professional athletes won a game playing like their jobs depended on it

Poile on Lottery: "Hopefully our pick at the entry level draft will be another foundation piece [at forward]...unless we pick 1st." -Ryan Porth @smashville247

So, Poile pretty much said that if we get #1, we're picking Seth Jones...

Thoughts?

Personally, if we got Jones, I'd be ecstatic. Jones, Weber, Josi, and Klein with Rinne in net...yes, please.

Not saying he won't, but in my opinion this is just gamesmanship by Poile. Have to win the pick first too.

About a 70% chance the Preds draft 4th or better (http://www.mynhldraft.com/2013-nhl-draft-lottery-odds/). These drafts almost always go the way the scouts say they will. So, Jones, Drouin, McKinnon will be gone. We go Barkov - you can take that to the bank.

Ill be furious if he goes defense first this year. We have drafted our best dmen outside of the first round anyways.

Mack and Drouin are worth it.

I think Barkov is one of those traps, that obviously looks like he's good because he did well as he was young. However, I don't see the past production that I see from some of the others. I think he's another Legwand and no offense, but we want more production than that.

And Mack and Drouin aren't potential traps with one of them boasting inflated numbers by playing with the other? I'm not saying that's the case, but that would be the bigger red flag to me.
