Ok I read it wrong on Capgeek. Still rather not trade for him.

According to Darren Dreger, he said earlier this year when the rumors started that Anaheim's asking price for Ryan went down. I still don't want to trade Couturier for him though. I rather take my chances on him hitting free agency.

The Flyers have the leverage for Ryan. He obviously wants to come here. Just don't do what Jim Rutherford did getting Jordan Staal, giving up a ton for someone he knew he was going to get this summer.

I completely agree. Maintain assets and get Ryan the best way possible.

This is Holmgren though. The moment he hears someone else is involved, he'll offer an outrageous bid that will either set the franchise back or handcuff the team financially or both. You can guarantee it.

How about bringin two physical vets to teach Laughton to NHL? Morrow and Clowe are UFA this summer. What would be their caphit after this season ?
I mean in our third line could be something like Morrow-Laughton-Clowe andt then try to trade Couts+Read+ to Byfuglien. There are two other nice Ufas, Iginla and Clarkson. If we can land like Iginla with two year contract , we dont need to trade for Ryan, just wait two years with Iginla and then acquire him.

FORWARDS
Jarome Iginla ($5.000m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jakub Voracek ($4.250m)
Scott Hartnell ($4.750m) / Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Wayne Simmonds ($3.975m)
Brenden Morrow ($3.000m) / Scott Laughton ($1.138m) / Ryane Clowe ($3.000m)
Zac Rinaldo ($0.750m) / Maxime Talbot ($1.750m) / Jay Rosehill ($0.675m)
DEFENSEMEN
Kimmo Timonen ($6.000m) / Dustin Byfuglien ($5.200m)
Braydon Coburn ($4.500m) / Nicklas Grossmann ($3.500m) Luke Schenn ($3.600m)
Oliver Lauridsen ($0.644m) / Luke Schenn ($3.600m)
GOALTENDERS
Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.667m)
Steve Mason ($1.500m)

how about we don't trade couturier+ for someone who wants to come here as a free agent anyway
couts is a non-starter for me. if we can trade someone else in a separate deal for another 1st next year i'd be willing to do a 2014 1st+cousins but that's about as much as i would give. the alternative would be anaheim getting nothing and him possibly walking as a UFA.

Some guy at the Berlin Mart says Brieres gonna stay and Kimmos leaving this year...

He seemed so serious but I couldn't help but laugh.

Briere is gone. I dont think there is ANY chance he is back...unless Homer forgets there is a salary cap

Thinking about it, I changed stance on the whole Laughton deal. I think Id be fine with him playing 4th line center as a 19 yr old.

xxx-Giroux-Voracek
Hartnell-Schenn-Simmonds
xxx-Couturier-Read
Rinaldo-Laughton-Talbot
Rosehill

Let one spot be where a rookie fights for it (according to articles people think Straka will have a good chance. Im guessing Akeson will also). The other one we can try to sign a guy. I liked Gagne but I do think we should go for more of an offensive threat player (Clowe, Horton, etc etc)

On Defense:

Timonen-Schenn
Coburn-xxx
Grossmann-Gustafsson

I think a guy like Streit would fit there well. We maybe have to give the older guy 2-3 years but he is still playing EXTREMELY well. I'd try to see if he'd just take a 2 year deal.

Akeson's on pace for 82 goals next year. He needs to included in the lineup.

Our young team REALLY **** the bed on the road...

That's something that hasn't been brought up often but...

15-7-2 at home...

8-15-1 on the road...

Basically inverse records. I think that's extremely telling and a symptom of being an extremely young team.

I think that's a pretty nice lineup. Think Akeson and McGinn make it. This upcomming year I think well see as couts and schenns best year yet. If we make no additions we are a 4/5 team next year.

I want one stud d-man, that's it. We should have the money. I like our forwards.

Bryz/Mason combo could be lights out.

In no world do I want Coburn and Schenn paired together. It's just asking to not get past our own blueline.

The rest of your post is spot on though.

I'm thinking Coburn has half a year to prove himself. There's been no indication that he was playing hurt, so he just sucked badly and regressed in general. Can't blame conditioning either; everyone else got themselves into shape and started to look like themselves, he just continued to suck.

No. The hell with this. He plays with Gustafsson or whatever PMD we bring in. He cannot be allowed to have the same puck-handling duties. That isn't the player he is.

Huh? I didn't say give him the exact same role. I meant he has probably half a season to prove he doesn't suck.

Edit: For instance, it wasn't long ago that Grossmann-Coburn was an excellent pairing. Neither one of them was a true puck mover, but it worked fine. Coburn shrank and shriveled this year, for whatever reason.

Yeah.

I honestly LOVE the idea of...

Timonen - Schenn
Gustafsson - Coburn

...to start the season. Gustafsson can operate as a Timonen-lite and hopefully give Coburn a nice comfort level with his gameplay. The only question is what we can do for a partner for Grossmann on the bottom pairing. I'm sure we can find someone. Streit would be ideal for the right price even if it bumps down Gus.

Streit would be ok, I am personally a fan, but he is obviously not a long-term solution. Maybe enough to get Gostisbehere here.
