Any team with a peaking Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Howard is a threat. How far they can go basically depends on:

1) How much more gas in the tank do these 3 have? Can they sustain their recent play throughout the postseason

2) Will the depth continue to contribute? If Franzen and the 3rd and 4th lines continue to contribute look out.

3) Can the young blueline limit mistakes? Can they keep their heads afloat and not beat themselves? Detroit finished 5th in GA, but this isn't a top 5 blueline. The blueline just has to continue limiting mistakes and making life easier for the 2-way forwards and Howard.

Basically there is no comparison.
So what you're saying is that Luongo is actually the better goalie, since he was a higher pick and is bigger. Not to mention his All-Star Team appearances.

Still a team to be respected. Even as a 7th seed, they still have Zetterberg and Howard who could factor in an upset.

That awkward moment when Vancouver fans are talking smack when they got WAXED in the season series, have worse goaltending, worse youth, and a worse prospect pool. Even in Detroit's weakest year since the early 90s they probably could have challenged Van for the Division if they played in the Northwest.

Wings made it. I expect them to be one of the teams making it to the West finals.

You have one of the best coaches in the game....

I personally would just keep Lou so yeah.

But as far as Howard goes, I think he is an average goal tender.

I don't see them beating Anaheim. The Ducks first line always finds another gear in the playoffs, and I can't see Detroit's defense being able to stop them.

Don't even bother trying to rationalize things for them. They still think their win over Chicago in the 2011 playoffs was the greatest moment in franchise history even though they were icing the best team they've had since the lockout and we iced the worst and still took them to 7 games and OT.

Any team with Abdelkader on their first line is not a threat for the cup.

Keep living in the past. Enjoy being out of the playoffs in the Northeast.

Zetterberg - 10 points in the last 4 games.
Datsyuk - 6 points in the last 4 games
Howard - 4-0-0, 0.75 GAA, .969 SV% in the last 4 games.

If they play like that it's going to be an interesting series.

They're playing good hockey right now and riding a hot goaltender. Those types of teams should never be taken lightly. They're a legitimate threat.

Could definitely take down Anaheim.

If they play San Jose, they'll lose
If they play Vancouver, they'll win (Canucks have been just gross against them)
If they play Chicago in round two, they may have enough momentum to have their revenge against the mediocre regular season record against them.

I'd say they are certainly a threat for round two, maybe even round 3. Too old/not enough depth to go to the cup though.

Someone probably said that about Holmstrom in 08.

The more truer statement would be "Any team with Daniel Cleary isn't winning the cup". Hoping he gets benched realsoon.

Too young is more accurate. Only guys that are too old are Bertuzzi, Samuelsson and Cleary, and only one of them is actually playing.

Yeah especially when the other two guys on that line are bums like Zetterberg and Datsyuk

In regards to the OP I don't think they have any chance at the cup but I could see them taking Anaheim down and giving Chicago a competitive series but that's about it.

True, hilarious that it has shifted to a too young from a too old. I guess I should go with just the "not enough depth" option, especially on D.

Pretty decent threat. They are coming into form and, if they can stay healthy, get some breaks and Howard maintains his level, they could do a lot of damage. They dismantled LA the other evening and a lot of people feel that LA is #2-#3 in the West.

Answer this question: If your team suddenly had Zetterberg and Datsyuk, wouldn't you at least feel like you had a puncher's chance? I would.

So then Detroit has an amazing defense leading to Howard's steller numbers and the top 5 team gaa?
