I was confident going into the 1993 playoffs just like I am today. Time to finish off these islanders. Mend my broken heart from 1993. I remembered that game distinctly. Game 7, down 3-1 with only minutes to play in the 3rd period. Dick Irvin was saying there will be a new champion this year. Then boom, Ron Francis scored and then Rick Tocchet scored with a minute left to go in the third. I saw a spider climbing the wall behind my chair. I was so happy I let him live. After five minutes of Overtime there was a dead spider. @!?$&@ David Volek. Even though the Islanders have been struggling since that year, I still hate the Islanders and looking at Glenn Healy every Saturday reminds me of that May 14, 1993 day.

Just at people who think this will be an "easy" series. Maybe so, but I doubt it.
Having seen some but not all the games in '75. The Pens had the firepower but not the defense, goaltending, former Stanley Cup winners and the grit that the NY Islanders had at the time, not to mention coaching. This Pens team is different because it has all those elements and the New York Islanders do not.

How many Isles will be playing in the postseason for the first time?

I think that will be a surprise which will emerge from this playoffs. The Pens have a ton more grit than the Isles. I fully expect the Pens to have bloodied the hell out of the Isles before they leave Pittsburgh for home. Win yes, but also taken a huge physical toll on that team.

I love this time of the year for all the hate. Someone on the main board cited the Isles 6-11-6 record in the last 4 seasons against the Pens as evidence that they'll pull the upset.

We're gonna steamroll them. Seriously guys. They're the Pens in 07. They might take one game. Have we forgotten the last game we played against them? They punished them and they had no response.

And I love how somehow we're "arrogant" and "disrespectful" as a fanbase because we're not [censored] our pants in fear and/or saying that we expect to get swept.

I don't like the sweep talk but it's expected I guess. Isles have been a solid team the last several weeks of the season. They might put up more of a fight than some people think; especially if we take dumb penalties / if they get under Neal's skin, etc. Also not sure where Fleury's brain will be at with his newly arrived daughter, etc. Could be motivating or his brain could be somewhere else.

If Pens take these guys lightly, don't be surprised if they swipe one of the first two games.

They've played the Pens tough over recent years but the Pens have such a big edge in talent and experience. I think it's a good match-up for the Pens because of that. Although I do think the Isles are a scrappy enough team to keep most of the games fairly close.

Defense was serviceable that year, and Gary Inness was pretty good in goal. I remember watching the last game, with Ed Westfall (the original Islander) roofing the only goal. It was quite the downer and the franchise didn't recover for a long time.

This year's big weakness is obviously the PK. Hopefully, the Pens don't take a lot of stupid penalties like they did last year. That and a subpar Fleury could do the Pens in this year. Orpik's absence is also an issue.

After Game 1, the Isles say they're tired of being disrespected and snatch Trevor Gillies up out of the KHL.

He then goes on a rampage through the stands, beating up fans for no reason.

...or something.

I guess I'm the only one who didn't want to see either NYI or the Sens in the first round, but it is what it is. Hopefully they don't underestimate the Isles and bring their 'A' game. LGP!

Yeah I don't like the smug talk either. But let's be reality here. This reminds me a LOT of a young talented Pens' team who got spanked by Ottawa, learned from it, and made the finals the next two years, winning the cup two playoffs later. The Isels have a really great young core, but I can go all Crosby and say Crosby things, but the honest truth is that the Pens should win this one, and most know that.

That is not disrespecting your opponent, just stating what everyone is thinking.

Let's hope the lines can gel against a slightly subpar playoff calibre defence and goalie.

Still, should be plenty of entertainment due to the Isle's PP and team speed. Also hoping #87 doesn't get hurt against them, he seemingly always gets injured against the NYI.
3 of the last six isles pens games he took pucks to the face

I enjoy so much that neutral fans are rooting for the Isles. The hate makes me as happy as a little girl.
