Monahan, Horvat and Domi

Three centers, something always needed...

You get one Two-Way

One defensive

One skill

Because no one trades young stud defensemen under the age of 35 for anything less than a Kings ransom.

Harford probably is still kicking itself from the Pronger-Shanny trade, and Shanny is a clear cut HHoF'er.

Trade proposal---thoughts: BUF-CGY pick swap

To CGY: BUF #1 (8-9) and MIN #1 14-18)
TO BUF: CGY #1 (4-7), STL #1 (19-22), and possibly a 2nd round pick depending on where the picks finally end up.
As a Flames fan, I'd like to respectfully say NOPE. No trades that would deny the Flames, at the very least, Monahan/Lindholm.

One of the common themes of the Calgary Flames franchise since the 80s is to be contrarian to what the Oilers do.

Especially since they failed so hard at this rebuild. There will be no intentinoal sucking allowed. The management will do whatever it takes to make the playoffs. Expect more attempts like O'Reilly.

Didn't read through all 4 pages, but how about

draft with their pick at roughly #6,

package other two first rounders + other piece of moderate value to move up for another pick in the top ~10-15 or whatever seems fair/ doable.

If it was McDavid going first overall than absolutely trade those picks and add in whatever needs to be added to make the deal work (Although I'm not sure any team would trade the 1st overall pick in his draft year), but since this is regarded as a deep draft, the Flames have an opportunity to stock up big time

Ummmm no. With regards to prospects, Panthers are ONE good piece away. Flames on the other hand need about 7-12 prospects (3rd round or better TIER A-B level prospects) because all of them will not be homeruns in 3-5 years.

Interesting how Calgary's literally a team away from prospect requirement, and Florida's one away. Sadly, Calgary's never had a top 5 pick (a few sixths, in the 30+ years the Flames have been in the league). This year'll be Florida's 6th since 2000. Just saying

As for this deal. I don't go for it. I'd be okay with moving one of the first rounders (would be happy with the Pens one) to move down into the 2-4 range, but not all the picks plus one of the possible future captains of the team to move to one.

The skill's up there this year, especially in the top ten. Moving from 6th to 3rd or 4th should require that much of a push, especially with the incentive of another first rounder.

Unless a team outside the top 6 wins the lottery the Flames will have a top 6 pick, which should guarantee them one of Monahan, Lindholm or Nurse, they may have an outside shot at one of the "big 4" if both Nurse & Nickushkin go in the the top 6.

Calgary needs to select players with their picks and not trade them away.

That is certifiably insane, it's way better to have three first-round picks in this draft than the first overall, by FAR. If whoever gets the first pick could trade for those three picks Calgary has they would be laughing it up, only a guy like Feaster would be crazy enough to contemplate such a thing, I mean just look at the prospect rankings, this draft is so off the charts deep even Calgary's management can't miss with all three picks.

Let's say it's 6, 14 and 26

Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Dmitri Kulikov and Kyle Palmieri for John Tavares ? Tough call

No need to add Giordano/Glencross. Sure, it could go either way, but depending on where that team is at the time moving the #1 pikc may be the right move.

Both Florida and Calgary passes.

Florida has an incredible deep pool, and don't need quantity. We need quality, which we will get in the top pick.

Calgary got a weak prospect-pool and this is their chance to turn that around. They need the depth, and I'm certain they will get some quality players.

Makes no sense from either side.

I would consider packaging the 6th with one of the other firsts to move up and take Barkov/MacKinnon, otherwise I'd keep all 3 picks. Calgary is guaranteed to draft one of Monahan, Lindholm, or Nichushkin - all potentially game changing forwards - at 6th overall.

There is a reason it's so hard to trade into that 1st pick. Players picked with the 1st is usually a elite talent.

there will still be elite talent at 6. Plus high end talent at 20-30

6th pick: Sean Monahan/Elias Lindholm/Valeri Nichushkin
St. Louis's pick: Hartman/Burakowsky/Rychel
Pittsburgh's pick: any of the above or Mueller/Hagg/Morrissey

I would go for the depth

Monahan, Rychel, Mueller + Bartschi, Jankowski would make their prospect pool legit

I'll believe that depth is more valuable than a first overall pick only if you find me 3 times in the NHL history where the first overall pick was less valuable than 3 late first.

Flames will be able to pick up Lindholm or Monahan, maybe even Barkov at 7.

Id keep the depth this year as its a deep draft and as good as Jones and Mackinnon are they don't look like a Pronger/Tavares.

the flames 1st and 3rd pick would be enough for the #1 overall as picks 2-6 are not that far off skill and potential wise.

the flames would be better off drafting with the 3 picks in such a deep draft then trading all 3 for the #1 overall. they have to many holes to be seeking this type of trade.

Better off just using the #6 pick than fighting to move up 2-3 spots.
