Do you think the Flyers' board brought in GKJ to replace you?

How do you feel about your posting? Is there anything you could fix?

If you were the GM of the Flyers' board, what would you say the problem is?

What sort of question is that? Why would you ask that?

Of course not. They simply made the move they thought they had to make. I look forward to working with him.

There's always things to fix. I'm always looking to fix things and get better. Why, what would you do? If you were in my shoes, what would YOU do?

There's no problem. Just gotta get together on the same page. You think you know everything, you know nothing. NOTHING, I say. All you do is criticize. It's all you do.

Thanks..interesting. I started that thread believing Bob would be traded to Columbus and sure enough he was. Also noted that he would be a starter and that we would probably rue the day we traded him....sadly it's coming true. Bob may even win the Vezina ....

Anyway, let's hope Mason is the real deal and in the long run is the better goalie although I wish Bob well...but I wish the Flyers more good fortune. I want this goaltending carousel to end ....

Was reading the thread on the main board about Bryz and saw people bringing up how he carried the Flyers for the first month of the season, which I've always laughed at when people say that around here.

Decided to do some calculations: Jan 19 - Feb 18, 15 games: .911 save percentage

Let's say he maintained that play throughout the course of the year. Where would the superhuman, one man band, team MVP rank in league-wide save percentage? 22nd.

His save percentage the rest of the year was .893 for those wondering.

I laugh at those who consider him the MVP. The funny thing is if he had kept up a .911 over the full season they probably squeak in as the 8th seed. He would have let in 12 fewer goals which is worth about 2 wins. That would have seen them make it in over the Isles. He is just as much to blame as anyone else as to why they didn't make the playoffs.

Mason only had 4 wins here. Hell, before he got his last 2 wins, there was no way for us to be top 5, regardless.

Bryz played well to beat the Islanders on Thursday. Blame him for dropping from 8th to 11th if it makes you feel better.

i put this on holmgren. This is his fault for trading leighton when clearly he would have been team mvp the last 10 games of the year. He would have rose to the occassion and guarenteed us a top 3 pick.

Even with him and how we played as a whole in the last 15 games (10-5), I don't know if we could of out-sucked Colorado, Florida, Tampa, Carolina or Nashville.

Yeah, but if this happened everyone would be freaking out right now about how worthless this roster is and how everything needs to be blown up in the offseason and Homer would be working the phone to trade Couts, Schenn, Laughton and Read for some useless over-the-hill defenseman and a backup with reported upside that just nobody can see apart from him.

CBJ: 13GP 2.95GAA .899SV%

PHI: 7GP 1.90GAA .944SV%

Totals: 20GP 2.59GAA .916SV%

He really turned in some respectable numbers for being horrible with Columbus to begin the year.

Speaking of which, in the 4 games Bryz played after Mason's first start he posted a GAA of 2 and a SV% of .929, so it's not like he sucked while Mason bailed everyone out.

I was more so saying his play with the Flyers really catapulted his overall season totals into respectable numbers.

that has, perhaps, something to do with the team commitment to defence.

Here's both Mason's and Bryz's last 5 games of the season.

Mason:
BUF- L 20 of 21 .952%
NYR- W 38 of 40 .950%
CAR- W 26 of 29 .897%
BOS- W 39 of 40 .951%
OTT- W 43 of 44 .977%

Bryz:
WPG- L 12 of 16 .750%
OTT- L 31 of 33 .939%
MTL- W 25 of 28 .893%
NJD- L 28 for 30 .933%
NYI- W 21 for 22 .955%

During that span Mason had a couple of nights where he faced over 40+ shots. Bryz played well during the final stretch too but didn't face as much shots compared to Mason.

For some reason Mason was facing way more shots than Bryz during that span. I don't know if it was confidence thing with the guys in front of him taking more chances knowing he's back there or what.

So Mason puts up better numbers with the "terrible" Flyers defense than Bryz, an "elite" goalie. Something here does not add up.

I get that it is a small sample size, but only looking at these games Bryz had 2 games with a save % under .900 with one even under .800. Meanwhile, Mason's worst game out of those is .897 which is still better than the two games Bryz posted sub-.900. I am seeing something here that confirms what I have thought all along.

Yeah I got bored and looked it up after he said that. I'm not going to take a way from Bryz for the most part he got the job done during that span too. I just thought it was weird seeing the differences in shots both faced during that span.

It's definitely a small sample size though so I don't want to get too carried away. I will say this though its not like Mason was facing some innocent wristers during that span neither. He made some crazy saves and really earned those numbers. I'm still very cautious with my expectations of him but hopefully he can keep this up next year.

they both looked very good at seasons end. goaltending is not this team's issue

agreed. better team D & not having to play a goalie 22 games in a row over a very short stretch of time will go a long way next year.

im happy with Mason & Bryz
