It was posted a few days ago but he was supposedly traded and got a 1 year NHL out clause. Then it came out he was pissed about the trade and supposedly the Russian Media says that Nichushkin was traded without his knowledge. Could trigger his decision to leave to the NHL.

If that happens he goes between 4-7. If not he could easily fall to us.

That's exactly the kind of theories you would hear though plus even crazier ones I'm sure. If we won the lottery that would phenomenal, the meltdown from opposing fans would just be a bonus. With that said we're not getting the 1st pick.
I wish we were still in 8th. The last decade and a half has had a couple 8th and 7th spots win the lottery. If remeber correctly no one has won past the 8th spot before.

I will say, there would be a little bit of justice in us winning it with how hard the team played down the stretch.

Would anyone else be interested in an ENTIRE lottery draft for the first 14 spots.

Obviously the worst teams have better odds, but the entire lottery would determine who picks 1,2,3,4,5, etc. etc.

Then have little ping pong balls like the PA lotto system. If a team gets pulled for a second time they obviously draw another name.

Yup, it's only happened three times that a 7th or 8th team won since the lottery started and no team higher than 8th has ever won it.

1995- Los Angeles (Moved 7th to 3rd)
1996- Ottawa (Retained 1st)
1997- Boston (Retained 1st)
1998- Tampa Bay (Moved 3rd to 1st)
1999- Chicago (Moved 8th to 4th)
2000- NY Islanders (Moved 5th to 1st)
2001- Atlanta (Moved 3rd to 1st)
2002- Florida (Moved 3rd to 1st)
2003- Florida (Moved 4th to 1st)
2004- Washington (Moved 3rd to 1st)
2005- Pittsburgh (N/A)
2006- St. Louis (Retained 1st)
2007- Chicago (Moved 5th to 1st)
2008- Tampa Bay (Retained 1st)
2009- NY Islanders (Retained 1st)
2010- Edmonton (Retained 1st)
2011- New Jersey (Moved 8th to 4th)
2012- Edmonton (Moved 2nd to 1st)

i think our currency circumstance (barring a hockey miracle that sees us winning the lottery) lends itself to acquiring another 1st, somehow.

coming away with either 2 defensemen or a defensemen and a winger would be great.

In the 1993 NBA draft lottery the 11th worst team with a 1.5 percent chance at the 1st, the Orlando Magic, won the lottery. So it could happen.... maybe.

I'd be shocked if they did. They usually shy away from drafting players playing in Europe in the first round and had been shying away from them in general in recent years until last year's draft.

On TSN's final ranking, Nichuskin is #2 over MacKinnon and Drouin? Wow.

We went 6-1 in our final 7 to make a breath taking run at ruining our draft position. Kudos to you flyers. Losing when it matters and winning when it doesn't.

This draft will have a solid top 9 with

jones
mackinnon
drouin
nurse
monahan
shinkaruk
barkov
nischukin
lindholm

Pray that 1 of those falls.

I'd prefer Ristolainen or Zadorov over Shinkaruk.

I still think our best hope is for someone to reach for Fucale between 7 and 10.

Eh, the only realistic way to get another 1st is to trade up from our second--and that's a pretty significant jump to make.

I wouldn't want them to trade a player off our roster for a 1st.

I can see us trading our first for a player that can help us now. IF we pick zadorov or the Rismus (sp) its going to be 4 years before they can help us out.

I'm on record as being fine with that, if it is the right player.

That said, I'm not sure that a guy like Ristolainen is that much further behind a guy like Gormley in terms of development. Ristolainen is probably the 2nd most NHL-ready defenseman in the draft after Jones.

I agree that Zadorov is probably a longer-term project. Some around here seem to believe that he has the highest ceiling after Jones (and possibly Nurse), but I was a bit put off by his CSS ranking.

I kind of have a feeling the Flyers are going to have two first round picks this year. I could see them dealing a 2nd and 3rd for a late first to grab a guy they like. Depending on who the guy is I would be ok with that.

I have a feeling Holmgren will either try to move up into the top 3 or deal the 1st+ for a player to help the team immediately. Snider can't be too happy about missing the playoffs and Holmgren will make a splash. Lets hope it is a smart splash.

Depending on the player, I wouldn't be opposed, but the last two 3rds have produced excellent value prospects in Cousins and Gostisbehere, so I don't think we should be too cavalier about dealing the pick. (I'm also not sure our 3rd would be enough to move from 41 to the mid/late 20s.)

That said, if someone like Hagg falls, it might happen. The organization was reportedly quite high on him earlier in the year, but his stock seems to have faded a bit.

Though I'd like to see them get a defenseman in the 1st, I wouldn't be that surprised if BPA is a forward (Shinkaruk, Gauthier, etc.) In that scenario, trading back into the 1st round to nab Hagg might make some sense.

i think a top 6 pick would be nice, the big 3 plus barkov and nurse or nichusin would be nice.

how far could we move up if we package our 2nd

Only 7th or 8th IMO--but that might be high enough to get Nurse.

Nurse is not getting past carolina.

I think we have 2 options here. Trade up and try to secure Zadorov or Rismus.

Or trade out of the spot. Staying at 11 is kind of a no man's land. If we stay there the guy id take is Domi.

I'm not convinced Carolina doesn't take Nichushkin if he's there.

Zadorov or Ristolainen will almost certainly be there at 11. Maybe not both. But one of them should be. If not, someone else is falling, a la Couturier in 2011.

Quote:
1. Jones
2. Mackinnon
3. Drouin
4. Barkov
5. Nichushkin
6. Monahan
7. Lindholm
8. Nurse
9. Shinkaruk
I think all 9 of those guys go off the board before us (EDIT: not necessarily in that order, of course)--plus possibly one of Ristolainen or Zadorov. I also think it is possible that Fucale goes--if you look at who's drafting around 8-10 (BUF, NJD). There's also Pulock, who some guys here really like, but who seems to be falling a bit on some draft boards (Button's in particular).

The other possibility, of course, is to make a deal to jump up a few slots with someone who wants Fucale.

ISS had him ranked #2 ahead of those guys for the last two months now. I believe they should be releasing their final list soon.

I think teams will target needs here. Buffalo already has Enroth. I see them going for d .

Colorado
Carolina
Buffalo
Edmonton

Should all be targeting D men. If jones go first, then colorado will get bpa. The teams behind us , winnipeg, blue jackets and phoenix are probably going to all target forwards. That is why i think we can get the same player at 11 at 14. I think we will have to jump buffalo to get the player we want .
