I'm sure Buffalo would be willing to retain some salary, and I'd be willing to add some conditionals based on whether Vanek re-signs with the team he's traded to or not.
If vanek is asking to get out it will lower his trade value imo but if bufflao is willing to take 2-3 million I could see la offering something like Bernier martinez Kozun Which would be jump starting a rebuild if needed kozun can be switched to nolan not sure that helps much thou

Off topic: Mods, time to merge and make an all purpose Vanek thread with the other two? Just throwing it out there

On the topic of Vanek; like someone else mentioned, Ottawa would be an awesome fit and definitely have the pieces to make it work. Don't think Buffalo could stomach sending him in division or Ottawa rolls the dice on him unless they can negotiate an extension

Quanity for quality....

Buffalo would never trade him to division opponent unless they paid through the roof----Gaylenchuk comes to mind as what you would be asked to give up.

It was obviously a joke. I'd just love to see Pominville's face if they did it.

Flyers need to address Defence and Goaltending. Adding another scoring forward would be so stupid.

That gives Buffalo two good young pieces (one who can go in the lineup immediately) and a veteran defensemen who can play for and help for the next year or two (Buffalo will probably have to take some salary back the other way for a deal to work).

For the Devils in that situation Vanek has to be willing to sign an extension or it is no deal.
Would rather have Merrill in the deal than Henrique, tbh. Buffalo's depth in terms of young centers over the past year or so has gone from amongst the worst in the league to amongst the best. 2 years ago -- which, keep in mind, is before we tried Ennis at C -- our top center under 25 was probably Luke Adam; now we've got Hodgson, Ennis, Foligno (has been tried there, not sure if he'll stick there), Grigorenko, Larsson, and Girgensons.

Something like Setoguchi + Dumba + Zucker.

But that would probably create an organization hole.
That proposal is nice and ******. I'll just wait for him to become a free agent and sign here.

Buffalo has no reason to shed salary so unless a team wants to pony up a top 10 1st rounder this year Vanek will be dealt at the trade deadline.

If he's dealt I would expect Regier is looking for a 1st + Teams Top Prospect + Young 2nd Line Player.

Buffalo needs help everywhere, mostly defense but we could use some forwards as well. I think we'll roll with Enroth/Hackett in net. We're rebuilding anyways.

Budish and Ekholm can definetly be had. We want to keep our 1st, Wilson, Forsberg, and Josi. Anything else is pretty much in play.

Can't see the Devils doing this...they have a pretty thin prospect pool already, and have to give up their first next year. This would pretty much cripple them for the future.

ottawa does make a ton of sense....need wingers, need scoring, money coming off the books, good prospect pool.

they could afford to pay a really heavy price as long as there was an extension in place.

1st+2nd+2 B+ prospects.

Minimum trade requirements.....

1. 1st round pick in 2013 or 2014

2. a top 3 under 25 yr old player.Ideally he is a potential top 2 line scoring winger

3. a top 10 under 25 yr old player

Bufalo would retain some salary in the deal.

Buffalo will not take pure cap dumps or players who will be UFAs after this year. the only time they would take a cap dump back is if its Vanek for 4 players/picks and the players are higher quality.

I do beleive buffalo wants to keep Vanek. I think they can't talk to him about an extension until July 1. His signing or a trade may not happen until September time frame.

I could see the Wings being interested if they can get the cap to work now & in the future. I'm not sure what they would offer but Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Vanek would be something special.

When a team is rebuilding, quantity often means quality, especially in the draft. This is a decent offer, not one I'd be willing to pay but one that holds a lot of value.

1st + high 2nd + A-prospect + B-prospect + UFA rental who's good for 25 goals

Don't be ridiculous asking for Galchenyuk, this is a fair offer for a rebuilding team that neither side would likely do.

What exactly is a B+ prospect to you???? To me its not a player who would be considered a top 3 prospect/young player in the organization.

buffalo isnt trading quality for quantity.

I'd counter with MPS +Klefbom +1st. Hemsky is a UFA after 13/14 season...Buffalo isnt taking that back unless something else is included in the deal.

Darcy Regier: "Thomas after careful consideration we are ready to move on from the Jason Pominville era of captaincy. You said once that you were pissed that you weren't picked to be captain by Lindy Ruff and we feel you are the best choice to lead this team. Also I've talked with the new coach and we will no longer stick you in front of the net all game and get you injured like every other year. Also you will get more than 12 minutes of ice time a game this season, how does that sound?"

Thomas Vanek: "Well that sounds great and all and I'm glad you finally think that but..."

Darcy Regier: "We also want to extend you 6 years at $7.75 Million per year."

Thomas Vanek: "Does that #26 jersey over there already have the C on it?"
