Yep knew Smyth was gonna be back. Maybe they'll scratch him every other night.

Matt Greene and Jaret Stoll squandered for nothing.

Ryan Smyth will be back.

"Very receptive" to moving down in the draft.

Sam Gagner had an unbelievable year and has developed into a leader and to the type of player they want.

Shouldn't be surprising after MacT's after hours interview last week. He basically covered this and praises his leadership and play once he learned how to adapt to his new role.

I'll say this, he did say the "group may not understand how hard they need to work to have more success"

"To be a top level goaltender he's got to be better" Mac-T on Dubnyk. He gave him credit, but that's a statement that they aren't just "happy"

I don't really blame him if he sticks with Gagner for the right price. This is a poor off season for trying to find a center. Slim pickings.

Pretty much said he'd move Hemsky.

His refusal to answer the buyout question points to Horc being bought out, imo

Smyth will be back, so we want a changeover of 6-8 players and Smyth isn't one of them? If MacT's hero Horcoff also stays that means that we will start to cut into the meat of this team instead of being rid of the garbage that we need to be rid of.

Also trading down in the draft? That worked well for us in 2003 didn't it? Ironically this is viewed as the deepest/best draft since 2003 and we are ready to repeat the same ****ing mistake

I didn't hear it as "moving down" in the draft, I heard it as moving the pick for something to help the team.

He also said he would use Amnesty buyouts, just won't talk about players because that would be a bit uncuth.

Also, I think the plan is to move Gagner to the wing.

Even picking where we currently are we're looking at Lindholm or Monahan, both of which would likely be upgrades on Gagner in the very near future. I'm not interested in turning Gagner into the new Horcoff and overpay the hell out of him in term and cap hit.

He never said he would for sure He said he'd consider it if the right piece was coming back. He also said he may try to obtain another draft pick...due to the depth.

Thanks, I'm not a fan of moving the pick either TBH, but if we get the right player I'd prefer that to trading down.

Hopefully Horcoff is one of those buyouts. Gagner to the wing makes little sense with Hall, Eberle, and Nail already on the wings in the top 6.

I was hoping to hear:
'Even though we have had a number of people changed in the Head Coach position, we have never purged the staff....

Ahhh, whatever, this team and a great portion of this fanbase is fine with losing.

If the organization's a circus then why not the dressing room?

What a joke. Said the exact opposite of what I was hoping for. When I first heard the press conference announced I was hoping the entire coaching staff was being turfed or Ralph was at least resigning and going home.

Oh well, more of the same next year. Great.

If they want to move down or trade the 7 pick away, I hope they at least wait til the time of the pick to see what's there first or get the best deal.

(1) major lolz at "we have to add some specific role players. Guys who are at least a threat to score".

(2) He's said more in a couple of interviews/press conferences than Tambellini in his entire tenure with the Oilers.

Sounds like Smyth is staying. And what was that about Gags possibly being moved to the wing? Positives: 6-8 new Oilers next year, goaltending needs to be addressed. So far I like where his head is at.

I think I'm going to start a "Fire MacT" thread.

He also stated all coaches and scouts would be retained. 'It's time we stopped blaming the coaches', or words to that effect.

Keeping the veteran garbage on this team is a complete abdication of responsibility.

How can he unless a deal is already signed off on?

Him announcing that Smyth will be back is strike one, Horcoff not getting bought out would be strike 2, not liking the start to MacT's reign. I had a faint glimmer of hope that Smyth and Horcoff would get turfed along with Hemsky and Gagner, if that were to happen we'd be cooking with gas, instead it looks like we're trying to start a fire with wet matches in a monsoon.

it's true...our 3rd and 4th line were never a scoring threat
Belanger, Eager, Jones, Smyth, Petrell, Smithson...all brutal and never a threat to score

ie. lack of depth

He said the options are putting someone else on his line that can win draws, having the wingers help and be better coordinated defensively after said loss, or move Gagner to wing.
