Shame to see a talented player limited by injuries like that...but because of that, he's basically a backup.
I like Halak, really, but thank god.

The boards would have been even worse during Price's slump if Halak was doing good.

Really sucks since subban played so well he just did get any points the last couple of games.
All letang has to do is pass the puck up the ice and the penguins transition game does the rest.

Not sure how great it would be for him to get the Norris. Just one more reason to get more money.

Yes but something should be said for PK's insane goal production. Letang is the sexier name and will win.

It wasn't anything huge just the other guys talking over him and dismissing what he was saying as per usual.

Subban, Suter or Letang is ok with me, although I don't think Letang deserves it as he didn't mean anywhere near the same to his team as Subban and Suter did.
I think it will be Subban or Suter. We'll see I guess.

I really don't think even Feaster would have been crazy enough to do that.

That goes without saying. I'm amazed so many at the time would have kept Halak instead.

Cammalleri had a monstrous salary cap, it needed balancing for it to work with Calgary's salary structure. Cammalleri for picks wouldn't have worked.

From Trade rumors board :

Quote:
Last month, a source close to the situation told TFP that Vanek would not sign an extension with the Sabres and is likely to walk as a free agent following the 2013-14 season.

Understanding the team's current state, and that Miller is expected to be dealt this off-season, Vanek is open to the idea of being traded this summer if the opportunity presented itself.

"Let's be honest. I'm not stupid. I know I have a year left and they can probably deal me for prospects, young guys, whatever else is out there," Vanek told the Buffalo News this weekend. "Yeah, I've thought about it. If it looks like it's a long rebuild, then it probably makes sense for both parties to move on."
http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/buf130429.html

Would be quite the addition, but I doubt we have the pieces to make it happen. He'll probably end up in Detroit or something like that. Seems to be their type.

Florida got screwed trading down from #1 in 2 straight drafts is what he's saying.

As for Vanek, just getting that ultimate Habs killer out of the division is good enough. No way BUF trades him in-division.

Ooh I see. Well in 2002 definitely, Nash ended up being the better player by far. It wasn't a very deep draft. Trading down in 2003 was, in hindsight, a great idea. Of course selecting Horton was not but there are plenty of players selected troughout the first round that turned out better than Fleury. Picking a goalie first overall is madness.

Vanek is a machine. I either hope we get him or he goes far, far away from us. He's 29 already, time sure flies fast. Anyways its definitely the end of Buffalo as a good hockey team for a while. They had a lot of trouble attracting good UFA players during their good years and keeping theirs, now its going to be utterly impossible. Dark times ahead for sure.

We definitely have the pieces to make it happen...the questions are 1-is MB looking to make that kind of deal at this point(or stay patient and keep building the "system") 2-would he be willing to sign an extension with us and for a reasonable amount? If you can only have him for one year it becomes VERY expensive as he will probably cost a 1st plus a top young player(Beaulieu? Tinordi?).

Pominville was also signed for only one more year and he was worth a 1st, a 2nd, and two very solid prospects. We could argue about a comparable for Larsson + Hackett, but I would say Collberg + Ellis would be a reasonable demand from the Sabres' POV.

I'm sure the Rangers will find a way to get Vanek.

They are going to ruin him too. Rangers blank cheques tend to do that.

They should have just kept the 1st overall and selected Eric Staal.

Dudley screwed that up big time.

We have the pieces if you're giving up major assets, which is unlikely. The Sabres are looking for young players, top prospects and picks. Picks we can probably afford to give up, but there's no way MB chokes up one of our big D prospects and a top forward prospect (likely a guy between Collberg, Kristo or Leblanc) on top of picks.

If you think you're not going to have teams line up for Vanek if the asking price is a 1st and a blue chipper, you're out of your mind.

GM Jim Nill quote

"I don't know if it's so much the timing as it is the right people in place," said Nill, a native of Hanna, Alberta. "The ownership is strong. The management team is strong. I'm from Canada. I'm a hockey guy. I didn't want to go to a market where you're on the back page."

I guess in Dallas hockey is on the 2nd last page
