Even if you only assume a modest bounce-back next year, the Flyers should be in the playoffs--why deal a #1 overall for a mid- and late-1st?

When we were slated to pick 8th, most acknowledged that 8th + Couturier wouldn't be enough to pry jones away from whatever team ended up 1st. We'd need to add even more on top of the 11th overall pick.

Trading up to get Nurse is more realistic.
I wasn't saying that's what it would take to get Jones, just that this "Flyers wouldn't trade their 2014 1st because they're hosting the draft" mindset is silly.

This is the Flyers. You could throw a 'not going to be healthy' dart at the team pic and you're probably going to wind up being right.

With our 1.5% odds, we will win the lottery, and draft MacKinnon

Book it

Honestly, if that's the worst-case scenario, I'm fine with it.

If we do that and don't flip him with something else for Shattenkirk or Pietrangelo we're pretty dumb.

After maybe 50 tries or more I finally did it.

If only this could happen. I would an extremely happy fan.

That said, watch the 14th place team win it now.

I think a team with a ~1.5% is overdue to win the lottery! Obviously it's probably not going to happen, but I'm still hopeful! Could you imagine the conspiracy threads on the mainboards? "NBC pays off nhl to give the flyers #1 overall"

Or JayZ rigged the lottery to get Jones in a big time market.

And Gary Bettman trained under Stern. Would he rig a draft lottery like his previous employer is accused of doing from time to time?

Assuming the NHL lasts long enough, and that they keep the lottery system, you have to assume that it will happen some day, right? So why not have it happen now and just get it out of the way?

All you need to know about the lottery as a TV 'event' is that it is sponsored by Scotiabank. We silly, hockey-mad Canadians will just keep drinking the Kool-Aid until we die of diabetes-related complications.
Yeah but the trade-deadline stuff I get. I used to watch that when I was in school and would skip classes to see it. Now I just follow along at work. I fail to see the intrigue with the NHL Draft special.

It was 20 years since Orlando won that lottery and we finished 20th in the standings this year. Divide those numbers and you get 1.

Add the number of players from one team in basketball and one team in hockey, what do you get? 11, where the first 1 stands for Orlandos pick and the second 1 is our pick 20 years later.

The numbers are with us. The first overall is ours, book it!

First big time African-American player coming into the league and he'll be stuck in Florida, Colorado, or somewhere in Canada. That's going to suck for the NHL and the marketing company that represents Jones.

Yea this would definitely be the year to rig the lottery if they were ever going to do it. Getting the first African-American player selected number one overall in a high profile north eastern city could do wonders for attracting other African Americans in the U.S. to the game.

Also being able to sell Crosby and Malkin VS. Giroux and Jones would be great for NBC for the next 7-10 years

Odds of winning the Powerball is 1/175,000,000 or so I believe, but someone does win every couple of weeks.

Don't **** on our dreams!

It sucks for them that Flyers are the only big time US market that are in this and that they didn't suck enough.
