Apparently several teams asked Tebow if he'd be willing to change position to TE or FB and he flat out refused. Dumb on his part if true.

Jason Collins, an NBA free agent who most recently played with the Washington Wizards, has come out as the 1st active openly homosexual professional athlete in North American sports (others have come out after their retirement).

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ba...154043515.html

This is a very big deal. Good for him, and good luck against the haters.

Awesome, awesome news.

Regardless of your views on marriage or on other issues, I think it's pretty universal that this is a good thing. Congrats to Jason!

Good for him - I honestly hope that this leads to more athletes feeling it's acceptable to come out, ultimately culminating in a star athlete coming out.

I'm a little surprised as I had personally pegged an NHL player to be the first out of the closet. Given the League's involvement in You Can Play and other anti-bullying measures, I thought for sure it'd be an NHLer over NBA, MLB, or NFL.

Well, after a few years of working at my new Be a GM with Colorado, I now have this in 2016-2017:

Landeskog(89)-Duchene(88)-Eriksson(86)
Vanek(83)-Backes(83)-Callahan(84)
McGinn(81)-Brodziak(79)-Stalberg(80)
Pyatt(75)-Guy I've never heard of(75)-Yip(75)

Liles(83)-Johnson(88)
Stuart(83)-Euro UFA(82)
Draftee(79)-Draftee(81)

Varlamov(83)
Draftee(80)

This team has Landeskog as captain, and then Callahan and Backes as the alternates. Clearly needs more leadership.

I agree it's sad that it took this long for a member of a big 4 sport to come out. It's also sad that something like this is a big deal and isn't more commonplace. But, progress is a slow process. Hell, Justhereforthefights and I still get the occasional odd glance when we're out together and how long has interracial marriage been legal?

Yeah, I'm hoping the responses from here on out or more along the lines of "Oh, cool" or "Who cares?" Should be the case over time, especially when it's more well known athletes.

10-15 years ago I doubt this would have gone over well. Even 5 years ago might still be a little iffy for an athlete to come out.

I'm not in such a relationship, but every once in a while I'll be out and pass an interracial couple and sometimes their children and I can just see in other people's eyes and body language they are "uncomfortable" with such a relationship in public.

You should look into acquiring Eric Staal to help you with that.

Yeah that's some crap right there.
I can't stand it when people are like that.

Like the other day I was reading about this high school (I can't remember in what state it was in...Mississippi? Alabama? Idk) that they actually held 1 school wide prom.

In the past there had always been 2 proms. One for white kids, one for black kids.

What in the hell.

Georgia, actually

The fact that this kind of thing us still happening in 2013 in the U.S. infuriates me, but at least it sounds like it was the students who were pushing for integration.

There's an excellent documentary that I believe is free on the webs (http://www.snagfilms.com/films/title...in_mississippi) called Prom Night in Misssissippi dealing with a similar town. The catch is that it's the town that Morgan Freeman grew up in and Freeman makes an offer to the students to bankroll their dream prom with the catch that it be integrated. The documentary very much paints it as the parents being the driving force behind the segregated proms, but it's definitely an interesting film to watch.

I figured.

It was in the back of my mind but for some reason Miss. and Alabama were in front

Hi Canes fans... I’m not sure if this is the best place for this, but there is an active NHL13 GM Connected League for PS3 that is about to start its off-season (currently finishing season 2). There following teams are available: BOS, BUF, CAR, FLA, MON, NYR, PHI, PIT and WIN in the East and ANA, CAL, DAL, EDM and SJ in the West. Current rosters were posted by the league’s commissioner on the EA Sports NHL thread in the Fantasy Hockey & Video Games section here: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1417095.

Seeing as your team is open (although there have been some roster changes - Staals are still there and you have Seguin, but no Ward or Skinner) I was hoping to get some interest in joining. We really have a good group of people with an solid and dedicated core of GMs. Only mandate is to join our Facebook group to converse, talk trades or setup games. The Commissioner does a lot to keep things organized and moving along. He advances every 5 days (off-season will be different, so please sign up soon, if interested!) Feel free to PM me or “Devil X” for more info. Thanks!

How about this: Geno Smith thought he would be & should be the No. 1 overall pick, I'm told. That's why he fired his agents. #nyj
