I generally agree. The only exception is if we trade back and get him along with another quality asset.

I hear ya, but I think that option only works if we are picking #1 because we won the lottery.

Why pass on a guy with mega potential for a guy with good potential and a third rounder??

"Quality" asset.

As in, we trade #4+SK+Blum for #7+ Vanek or something like that.

Ok. Didnt realize what you were saying. I like this idea better.

But at #7 we are not getting one of the big guys whereas #4 we are. Vanek isn't exactly a spring chicken. Is he worth the gamble?? Not to mention his FA status after one season. Plus we lose Blum.

It was just a quick example, and doesn't necessarily have to be that, but you get my point. I'm saying if we use the pick to trade down and are able to bring in a really nice piece in the process, it's fine. I'm not talking a 3rd rounder.

Getting Vanek, if he'll sign, is easily worth that.

I do hear what your saying for sure. I'm just so excited about us having a top five pick in such a high end talent draft I would not be impressed if poile trade out of top five at all. I can just see barkov terrorizing the league for years and we could have had him. Especially at entry level contract for first few years.

If poile is actually going to try to bring in a sniper, we can move next years first, Ellis, Blum, Watson, sk74, Bartley, budish etc. but hang on to this pick IMO would be wise.

That's not a bad idea, it just comes down to what NSH and BUF project as to the kind of player they'd be getting at #4 and #7. If #4 is a superstar and #7 is a second liner, we don't make the move. If #4 & #7 are both elite talents, than yes it's an enticing deal, but then Buffalo won't want to give up Vanek if that's the case. But if their projections are different....

Also, I don't think SK has any trade value. Maybe a 5th if we're lucky.

I just dont see how getting Vanek for one year is worth dropping out of the top 4 and possibly missing out on a great player who would be ours for at least 9 years.

Blum is fine to send, but cant see why they would want SK...

I still say without an extension Vanek gets a 2014 1st plus a solid prospect at most.

Guaranteed avalanche are taking jones at #1.
He grew up there.

Florida will certainly take Mack and drouin is exactly what Tampa needs. So we will get barkov or trade up.

I can't see any of those teams not taking the players I named unless trades are made.

Colorado will surely take Jones... local kid, they definitely need an impact defenseman.

Florida will be all over MacKinnon, they have basically the same center situation as the Preds and can't pass up on Mackinnon.

Then Tampa and Drouin makes sense, he will be a deadly 1-2 punch with Stamkos for a long time.

So it's Barkov to Nashville, and as the Lottery show confirmed, Barkov is considered to be the most likely to make an impact in the NHL next season. What could we not like about that?

1. COL-Jones
2. FLA-Mackinnon
3. TBL-Drouin

Those are all PERFECT fits.

Yotes fan here. After our slim chances at #1 this year passed by, was rooting for you guys to win the lottery. Still, looks like you'll finally be getting that franchise center you've always needed in Barkov at #4, so congrats! He should be a stud for you for years to come!

So there's no chance Tampa would take Nurse?

Not that high. Unless they trade down. But if they did it would be because someone else wants drouin.

They ''may'' take nichushkin but doubtful.

TSN put the kiss of death on Barkov. Great two way game which means he will never crack 20 goals in Trotz's system. I would love to draft one guy who will pot 40 but does not play a lick of defense.

barkov is a big center with two way play already developed. every bit ive watched of him, he is very good with the puck. great vision.. think joe thornton or ryan getzlaf with play-making abilities. he will fit perfect here as his defensive game needs zero to none refining with a full training camp. he was playing among men this past season and was definitely a key contributor. 50+ points next year in a top 6 role would be a very reasonable expectation. im 95% sure this is who we grab aside from any trade ups (very doubtful).. fits very well with this organization.

That guy ran to Russia years ago.
