The Drouin-Kane comparison is a popular one. I haven't watched enough JD to know how accurate that is.

However, from what I know it seems like Drouin's a sharp kid with his head on straight, so if he's got anywhere near Kaner's silky mitts and hockey IQ without the occasional off-ice headaches, hoo boy.

The pick should (and most likely will) be Drouin. Kid is so talented it's nuts. If you were picking later like 7-8 I could see Yzerman taking a chance on Nichushkin as he's shown to do with picks in that range (Connolly, Koekkoek).
Exactly. People posting about how TB need to draft a defenseman are out to lunch. It's Drouin. End of story.

I mean, it's one thing if Jones is on the board. We take him because he's BPA, and the fact that he fits a need is just gravy. But I don't think anyone said we should draft a Dman at 3. Nurse or Ristowhatthehellever would be HUGE reaches. Trading Teddy or Connolly for a young D, though... that's something I would entertain.

Would any of you do a Gormley + #12(Zadorov) for #3? Or Hamilton + #26(Hagg) for #3?

Or do you all want to see the pick dealt for a more proven commodity, like Edler on defense.

Or draft Drouin and deal Panik/Connolly/Kucherov for help? Or deal Purcell for help?

Or status quo with Gudas+Sustr

I'm more of a fan of moving Teddy or Connolly (especially Connolly... a little gunshy up here on the big club) for top 4. I wonder if Connolly + our 2nd could grab a guy like Yandle.

I like Yandle, wouldn't mind seeing him in TB.

I dunno. I feel like that's underpayment from our end. Yandle is pretty proven. Furthermore, while I would love Yandle here, he's more offensive minded. We need to keep pucks out of our own net, we are already very capable of putting them in the other team's.

I think we hold on to Kucherov to please the other Russian prospects, but I don't see room on this team for both him and Drouin. I'd rather keep Panik and Connolly, other than them and Killorn we don't have much size in our forward group. Malone will probably be the one to go, I'm not sure we could get much for him next year.

Next years lineup could look like:

Purcell - Stamkos - St. Louis
Drouin - Lecavalier - Connolly
Pouliot - xxxxxxx - Killorn
Panik - Pyatt - Crombeen
Thompson

I left the third line center option blank because I would really like Yzerman to go after a solid defensive third line center. One who can win faceoffs, kill powerplays, and shut down opposing centers.

Hedman - Salo
Carle - xxxxx
Gudas - Aulie
Barberio

I think Brewer is the odd man out, and that Carle will stay with us. We need a better puck-moving D. I'd look through trade to add one or two pieces.

Bishop
Lindback

HOW DARE YOU.

Prepare for the endless Connolly vs Kucherov posts.

But let's face it... Who has more trade value right now/offseason that we could move for D? It's gotta be Connolly, given his play in the A this year.

Connolly is more proven, and holds more value. I'm just not ready to give him up yet. If the right defenseman was offered I wouldn't mind trading Teddy.

IMO, until we have Drouin, Kucherov is the most offensively talented player we have in our system and its by a lot. This kid is going to be a big goal scorer in the NHL. It'd be a mistake to deal him.

I really don't see us trading our pick. Way too valuable. Teddy and Brewer and Malone will be on the block I would think. We can get a quality dman for a combination of them and picks or something. I don't think SFY would trade our pick away. Very high pick, very valuable. Unless it was for an absolute stud dman, it's not happening.

I don't like Purcell with Stammer/Marty. We need a guy that can get pucks. I prefer Killorn up there, to be honest.

I would try to roll three scoring lines, myself. Something along the lines of...

Killorn-Stammer-Marty
Purcell-Vinny-Connolly
Drouin-TJ-Panik
Pouliot-Thompson-Crombeen
Pyatt

TJ is a good defensive center, and it could relieve some pressure on the Vinny line to produce. We'd have to win a lot of high scoring games, but rolling those three lines we could probably do it.

I don't think this is the year to trade away our pick. Top three too good.

You can't pass up a talent like Drouin. Especially with Marty getting older, Drouin is his ideal replacement. We can get rid of some of our crappier/inconsistent forwards for D, such as Teddy or Malone.

I don't draft for need when I have a chance at one of three absolute stud-muffins.

1. I draft Drouin.

2. Trade leftovers (Connolly, Panik, Prospects, Picks) for a top 2 D.

3. $$$$$$$$$

We'll see what Whyzerman does, though.

We'll have to deal with that then, oh what a horrible problem to have.

Oh well, anyway, I'm really happy. Of all the possibilities I most wanted Drouin so it's a good day.

Ya, I don't see this pick moving unless it is for a very big trade that simply wont happen. Honestly, I'm almost glad the team tanked this year, just for this reason. We get our bad year out of the way on a short season, and we get in on a year where the top 3 picks all seem to be ridiculously talented.
