Simple, since these are the two best prospects after Jones:

MacKinnon

or

Drouin

i wouldn't be so sure tallon doesn't draft someone he really really likes, it could be barkov or nischscuscjsajhdfbjhgmkin, but yeah. most likely those. going by his love of fast skaters, macK

MacKinnon is the top center prospect in the draft, and one of the most talented as well. He is already a very good two-way center, is more of the goal scorer to go along with Huby's playmaking abilities, and by what a few scouts have said, he is the fastest player they have seen in a long time. MacKinnon makes too much sense, but the only other person I would think Tallon considers, is Drouin. Barkov is a bit of a reach at #2, as is anyone else not named MacKinnon or Drouin.

If they do, I think Avs fans will burn down the city of Denver.

This. Plus they're really close, apart from different positions they play of course, but Jones being a local kid should tilt it to his favour.

He lived in Colorado, learned and loved the game there, and has quite the following there. Passing on Jones is not only a dumb move for Colorado because he is the best player in the draft, and they need Dmen, but it would be a marketing disaster as well. No way Jones doesnt go #1 overall.

Now the question is, where do we find the RW to play with Hubs and Mac? And the C to play with Flash and Versteeg?

Trade for 3rd overall to get Drouin as well like Canucks did for Sedins.

Does it matter? We have the chance to add a #1 center, something we have never had. I still like my proposal the best, which is to have a line of:

Bergenheim - MacKinnon - Huberdeau

Bergy is exactly the type of gritty forward you want playing with two guys like Mac and Huby. He will fight in the corners, and crash the net hard, something you will need to compliment two younger players. You could go with someone like Kopecky there as well, but I just think Bergy is the perfect fit for those two, until one of our prospects are ready to step in later on.

As for Steeger and Flash, if Weiss is not going to be re-signed, and we arent going to add another center in free agency or via a trade, then Id like to see Matty play the second line center. He gives the line more size and strength, and has shown that he has enough skill to hang with our more talented forwards.

Bergy - Mac - Huberdeau
Flash - Matty - Steeger
Kopecky - Goc - Upshall/Howden

That is how I would go with the top nine (that is without signings/trades/buyouts). And like I said in the other thread, the Mac and Huby combo will be our top line of the future, but it doesnt have to be next season. All those lines would get similar ice time, so its not like there would be a clear cut top line, yet. Later on, you can plug in Bjugstad on the 2nd line, and move Matthias to the 3rd, and/or have guys like Shore and Trocheck battle it out.

what about mueller? 3rd line instead of upshall/howden unless upshall steps up big? let howden develop in ahl play top minutes

Forgot about Mueller. You can use him on the top line, but then that line becomes much softer without Bergy there. I think that that duo is going to need a bit of muscle on the line in the beginning, just until they get more experience in the league. You could go:

Flash - Weiss - Steeger
Mueller - Mac - Huberdeau
Bergy - Goc - Kopecky

That would probably be the best way to go, and gives us the most talent spread across three lines, but now you strand Matthias on the 4th line. You could give him linemates like Skille and Howden, with could work, but then the team is pretty soft up front, and our battles along the board would be mighty tough.

Mac seems like he'd be a good fighter in board battles.

Would Kuli+Howden get it done? I would do that and then sign a FA Dman to replace Kuli for next season.

Well, at least we dont have to have the debate of Jones or Mac at #1. This makes it a whole lot easier. Even though we are going to get ourselves an offensive stud, this lottery was such ********. It was so obviously rigged for COL to get the #1 so they can take the hometown boy #1. I mean, come on, we should have seen this a million miles away and even though I knew we wouldnt win the lottery, it still pisses me off we didnt get the #1. This is just like the rigged NBA lottery with Patrick Ewing, and everytime I watch that video of Stern pick out the team from the bin, I cant stop laughing at how bad and rigged that lottery was. I dont see any way Tallon passes on Mac for Drouin at #2, so I think we can start welcoming Mac to South Florida

I really wish this team would have the balls to make a move like that. Not only do you get 2 offensive studs, but we become the automatic draft winners and the talk of league with a move like that. Put the Cats at the center of the attention of the league for a little while for a change.

I could see where they would be hesitant because look at the number of injuries to the defense last season. We need all the d-men we can muster because we have no luck with anything. But, I agree. Would be cool to see something like that..

MacKinnon has 209 points in 131 junior hockey games.

Is it even possible to get the 3rd pick from Tampa?
