Wouldn't there be a small chance it's 13 also when someone leapfrogs us to #1?

Please don't invoke the old +1 rule that we seem to have faced often in the past (ie. 12 prospects before a drop off of level and we pick 13). For what I can't gather from this thread, this should not be the case this year but hey no jinxing!

Board meltdown if the Coyotes win. Seriously. Uncle Gary must be sweating bullets, hoping our ball doesn't come up first.

Ah ah maybe there will be only 14 balls, with number 12 conveniently forgotten.

Yeah, Gary will slap his own forehead so hard if the Coyotes accidentally win. Man oh man, he'll look bad. Haha.

My first choice is Phoenix, my second choice is Florida.

If Florida picked first, they'd have taken MacKinnon. Colorado will take Jones, anyway. This lottery win means nothing to anybody. haha. No change.

Avs get it, Jones going #1. And I think it's safe to say 2-4 will be Mac, Drouin, and Barkov.

McKenzie's rankings from a poll of ten NHL scouts:
http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/feature/?id=93505

Analysis:
http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/story/?id=422034

Most interesting:
Quote:
Nine other prospects received at least one vote as a Top 10 consideration and of that group, London Knight forward Max Domi and Edmonton Oil King forward Curtis Lazar were the only ones to get multiple Top 10 votes. Domi, for example, was extremely close to finishing tied with Shinkaruk and Nurse. Domi was No. 18 in January, Lazar was No. 25.

Others who received a Top 10 vote included: Swedish forwards Alexander Wennberg, Jacob De La Rose and Robert Burakowsky; London forward Bo Horvat; Everett defenceman Mirco Mueller; Brandon defenceman Ryan Pulock; and, Val d'Or forward Anthony Mantha.

If we can't trade up, this is a rare draft where I'd be happy to move down. 12th to CBJ for the 19th and 23rd. Then hope that one of Wennberg, Lazar or Gauthier is still on the board.

I don't really see any player being worth 19 and 23 at 12. Maybe if Lindholm or Monahan falls, but at that point you are just better off taking them. Columbus also needs to use all those picks to build depth, so I don't see them making that type of move.

Yeah. Top 4 are pretty good need fits with their presumptive teams as well.

Lazar getting multiple top 10 votes makes me feel more comfortable picking him at 12. Still holding on to a sliver of hope that GMDM can somehow move up or Monahan/Lindholm do a Filip Forsberg-esque fall.

I hope this team learns its lesson in the future to take when the odds of making the playoffs goes against you. At least Edmonton didn't get it this time.

If the Avs pick Jones as expected, they will have a serious core of talented young players. It will be interesting to see which direction they choose to take head coach wise.

How do you figure, up until the last handful of games they had a legitimate shot at making it, why on earth would you tank in that scenario?

Which is actually kind of an interesting story. Popeye Jones was a solid role player in the NBA in the 90's. During his stint as a Denver Nugget his son really started getting into hockey (the Avs were obviously awesome then) and wanted to actually play. Using his pull he got a chance to talk to Joe Sakic on how best to help his kid play and Joe pointed out that his son will most likely be naturally big and athletic so he should just concentrate on skating. Popeye listened and enrolled his son in figure skating classes for a year so he could learn how to skate really well before playing hockey. Fast forward about 13 years and his son, Seth Jones, will now likely be selected #1 overall by none other than the Colorado Avalanche. Joe Sakic just keeps on helping that franchise out!

After the wings game, they were toast. We should have called up Portland players, however, they are going to the playoffs, so messing with that chemistry would have been bad!

On paper, yes! But in practice we knew the Coyotes weren't a playoff team based on injuries, loss of key players, the short season, the dreaded ownership issue, and the lack of will to play well early on in the season. Most of us were asking for this team to tank around the half way point of the season and yet that didn't happen.

After losing in Detroit and being officially eliminated, the 5 points we gained after cost us 4 spots. Big difference between 8th and 12th.

I imagine we'll take Lazar. It's a good pick and a good fit, but he's not the impact forward we need to take us to the next level. This shortened season was a missed opportunity to slide into the range where that need could have been filled by the draft. While I admire Tippett's focus on winning, I wish it didn't make things harder.
