I think Buffalo takes Nichushkin, as they took Girgensens and Grigo last year, Jersey looks poised to take Fucale, an Dallas takes Lindholm to be the 1-2 punch with Benn.

Buffalo will want a PF and a scoring winger to play alongside Grigorenko, and Nichushkin is arguably BPA there anyways. Seems like the perfect fit to me. Their size up front could be a horror show, with Grigs, Hodgson, Girgensens, Foligno, and adding Nichushkin...

Our division is going to be ridiculous in the coming years. Florida is quietly becoming a monster, loaded with great prospects, Boston is and will be tough, Montreal and Ottawa are transitioning to young, developing, good teams, and Detroit... I hope we continue to build our club, draft smart, and develop right. I think we'll be in the best division in hockey in a few years.

I have the Leafs selecting Morgan Klimchuk - the most underrated player past the top 10, IMO, along with Ryan Hartman.

Any of the two and the Leafs will have a gem on their hands.

Hartman > Rychel for me.

Klimchuk will be a natural goal scorer in the mold of Jeff Skinner.

I like Klimchuk. Hada GREAT U-18 World Championship. Was really impressed with his game.

I also think Gauthier vastly raised his game, despite the fatigue of playing the most hockey of any season in his life. Killed penalties, provided the game winner in the gold medal game, blocked shots, was decent on faceoffs.

I don't mind Hartman, but in relation to him vs. Rychel, Kerby has everything that Hartman has, but is bigger, stronger, and has better scoring now, and in the future with his potential. Much like I'm not a fan of Domi, i understand that some people prefer others, so that's all good.

For me, my preference is:
1) Gauthier
2) Rychel
3) Wennberg
4) Klimchuk

Of course, it all hinges on whether Gauthier, Rychel, and Wennberg are still on the board.

I'm a big fan of both Klimchuk and Hartman so I agree with this post.

I would love to move up with our second into the late first so we can snag both of these players. They both have bright futures and I see Hartman as being captain material.

I've been independently scouting both these guys.

Ryan Hartman is probably my favorite player from this draft and is a player you win with. He likes to model his game after David Backes but I see a combination of Ryan Callahan and David Backes in him.

He's an ace penalty killer already at this age. He plays tough, with the type of grit Dustin Brown, Ryan Callahan and David Backes play with. He stands up for his team mates, and never takes a shift off.

From his coaches mouth:

Quote:
"His compete level game-in, game-out is something I'm really impressed with," Vellucci adds. "He doesn't take a game or a shift off. Something that's just showing now more and more is his goal scoring, his playmaking. He's been snakebitten, but as of late, he's getting more opportunities and he's putting them in. I think he was concentrating more on his D zone because centre is new to him but once he gets used to it, he'll start putting up more points."
Hartman models his game after Backes:

Quote:
1. You are unique in that you're a power-forward type while being listed at 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds. Whom in the NHL do you watch closely because he is the type of player you'll need to be to reach that level?
"I like to look at David Backes [of the St. Louis Blues]. He's a captain. He's a leader. He might be a few inches taller than me. I'm not too worried about height. I don't have a guy under 6-foot on my dad's side. My uncle is 6-5, another uncle is 6-6, my dad is 6-2. My dad didn't grow until college late bloomers in our family."

I'll always give the nod to people who have actually seen these guys. Can have my preferences, but that's all they are in the end .

Klimchuk and Hartman both sound like great picks in that bottom half of the first round.

Nobody is a scout around here, but you're certainly getting a better read on things if you're watching these kids, or getting info from people who do, as long as they know what they're looking at.

I started reading "The Art of Scouting" today, and almost finished it. Solid read. Givesa decent glimpse into what goes into projecting players, and what they're looking at.

If we get any of:

Horvat
Domi
Klimchuk
Rychel

I'll be a happy camper.

The guys I like at 20 are

1) Lazar
2) Hagg
3) Zykov

I also would love the Leafs to pick a do-it-all centre like Horvat or Compher.

Tbh there are a bunch of guys I'd be happy with Gauthier is probably my favourite, size and skill. I keep hearing so much about hartman and sounds like he is really good (and his intangibles make him a leaf target imo) Rychel is another guy. I would love pulock to fall but I don't see that happening. Lazar and Fucale would be nice too (stud goaltender that has #1 potential ill take it at 20)
1. Gauthier
2. Rychel
3. Hartmen
4. Fucale
5. Lazar
I won't add pulock as he will be gone probably before we pick, note I havnt seen much of these players just basing my opinion on what others (and professionals) have said about them

So Edmonton landed right where I hoped they would - in a position where Monahan might be available. So Gardiner + ? for their 7th overall? Would love to have the local kid, strong defensively, character and lots of offensive potential.

I echo this, Hartman has more going for him than Rychel, I wouldn't mind taking him. He reminded me of Callahan since winning the gold medal for Team USA, was a key player on that team also.

Nichushkin may go higher than Barkov if he wasn't signed for 2 more years of KHL.

If Monahan is there when Oilers pick we need to think hard about dealing Gardiner + 1st for pick..

Gardiner + 1st for edmonton's 7th + 3rd...

Were going to lose Bozak or Gabo due to cost thats a certainty...Monahan is a real asset and having him and Kadri would be ideal for us long term at Centre..

Huberdeau has shifted to the wing, they really need a centre now. I think theyll take MacKinnon. Its the more important position when building a team, and while Drouin may be slightly more skilled, MacKinnon is better defensively and he's got more size.

Then Drouin can go to TB to play with Stamkos.

Monahan seems like a boss there.
Huberdeau has been playing wing for most of the season actually. Shore was centering him. And bjugstad is likely to play center. So drouin could fit too.

Wilson has also been playing center in Nashville but barkov
Would be a great fit. Your point about ten being thin up te middle isn't wrong haha. Really they need an elite forward for the future to play with forsberg/Wilson.

Carolina is a big question. Do they pick a dman high? Or go with high risk nichuskin (who could also go to Tampa. They haven't been afraid of taking Russians in the first. Does that change this high though?) or do they just play it safe with lindholm/Monahan?

Calgary likely takes lindholm/Monahan. One will be available, so they take whichever falls. I hope they do anyways .
