agreed. better team D & not having to play a goalie 22 games in a row over a very short stretch of time will go a long way next year.

im happy with Mason & Bryz
Bryzgalov still wasn't very impressive behind that better team D. Explanation?

I hope they don't buy Bryz out this year. Mason wants the starting job, don't give him a clear path to it. Make him earn it, and on the other side make Bryz work and earn the starting nod. Improvement by competition.

It's definitely a small sample size though so I don't want to get too carried away. I will say this though its not like Mason was facing some innocent wristers during that span neither. He made some crazy saves and really earned those numbers. I'm still very cautious with my expectations of him but hopefully he can keep this up next year.
Yeah, I agree, the sample size for Mason is too small. That being said, it is still amazing how much better Mason has fared compared to Bryz over those games. Bryz did well those games too, but Mason's numbers are far better than Bryz's and as you pointed out Mason faced a lot more shots.

More shots + more saves = higher numbers!

Patti Labelle?

Well, she was born in Philly, but I really don't know what an 80s R&B singer has to do with the Flyers

Pinkeye? I hear there have been multiple infections sourced from the Flyers locker room.

Package?

Brygz's package is too small to handle the pressure and you fear Mason's is tiny as well?

Performance

Bryz's rendition of Hamlet was utterly plebeian. Mason's was pedantic at best as well.

Those silent Ps always get me.

I was going to go with "psyche", which also seems like a valid answer.

More shots means more chances of pucks going in and more than likely more defensive breakdowns and more time spent in the defensive zone. Funny how out of all those shots there weren't more goals allowed with all the perfect or deflected shots that teams get on the Flyers.

What? That's what I'm saying. Mason saw more shots and saved more of them thus his numbers are higher

Yeah, I know. I am just saying it is funny there weren't more goals allowed since, you know the Flyers have defensive breakdowns like no other teams. Oh, and all the perfect or deflected shots that always go into our net.

Randy Miller must have wrote an article this morning comparing Steve Mason to Bernie Parent.

I see a bunch of people lol'ing at him on my twitter feed.

That's the thing that irks me when people are quick to apologize for deflected goals on Bryz (same with some "screens'). Yeah some of them are tough to nearly impossible saves to try and make and I'm not trying to rationalize the nearly impossible ones...but I don't know how many deflections I saw were b/c Bryz wasn't square to the shooter or too far back in his net..basically out of position to even have a chance at a piece of the deflection.

i loved the way Mason looked ..... then again, i loved how Bryz looked at seasons' start ... we'll never know how Mason would have looked after 22 strait starts, but thankfully next year, we don't have to worry about it. let the better goalie take the #1 spot.

the other will certainly be fighting for that spot & the competition will be good for the team

I just want to win games. Both goalies can do whatever as long as the team finds a way to win games. If they win the cup and Bryz/Mason has a GAA of 9 and a sv% of .750 I won't care. Just win.

Someone in the just closed thread was asking if Bryz was really a worse starter than Dubnyk? Based on this year, absolutely. Dubnyk is proof a goalie can put up .920 even with a bad defensive team in front of him.

completely agree. CHI didn't turn the CUP back in because Niemi was not very good .... they took it and RAN !
