Interesting that Hitch says that Jaškin will likely get to play at some point.

Likely, especially if they make it out of this round. There will be casualties along the way, while there's a great chance that some of these guys are already injured and need a break.

This. I would like to see Perron-Berglund-Stewart at some point, they played well on a line together before being shuffled around again by Hitch. As long as the lines click, the boys have completely "bought in", and Elliott remains standing on his head...we have every opportunity to win this series.

Like you mentioned earlier, it will be war.

That is pretty interesting. Another big body that at the very least can throw his weight around if someone gets injured. Could easily plug him into the fourth, and put Cracknell on the 3rd line. At the very least, he's going to run some people over. Might even run into a point or two.

Yeah, I suspect Hitch may turn to Jaskin if the Blues are being marginalized by the Kings' physicality.

So I like Jaskin as much as the next guy but really. Is this just throwing a big body out there? Or is this getting the young guys a little experience? Or is this making the rest of the team play well or we are going to put Jaskin in your place mentality? Or mabe all of the above.

I'm excited as the next guy about Jaskin and think he is a great prospect. I have to say though unless somebody gets hurt on the roster we have better options. Did I miss something? I was excited about him getting signed and a few games in down the stretch, but really he is young and not much of note really came of it.

I know hitch is smart, I'm just curious if anybody else as a fan really wants this to happen? I think Cracknell every game, Porter, Reaves, all better options imo. Unless they want to throw him on a scoring line? But really who goes then? Tank is already out. Id rather have Frank than Jaskin personally.

Which could be a very good thing. He can step in on that 4th line and do some damage. Sit Reaves or Cracknell and let Jaskin reap the rewards of Porter's ability to gain the zone behind the net. Jaskin will make his money from within 15 feet of the goal.

1st goal would be huge for the Blues confidence over these Queens.

C'mon Blues, get R done!

I don't see Reaves playing in round 2 very much. Or even Porter. jaskin is more valuable in games against the hawks.

Its wonderful that the Blues have the depth to scratch:
Cole and Russell on D
Tarasenko, Nichol, Jaskin (or one of Reaves/Cracknell)
Halak and Allen in goal

They have the depth to absorb injuries throughout the playoffs and not degrade the quality of the team on the ice, or have to disrupt chemistry of lines to try and patch things together. (Of course, no team can lose its best player and look the same, but the Blues can compensate for losing almost anyone without too big of a disruption.)

I look at this team on paper, and Armstrong has built it for the post-season. Let's see what they can do.

Assuming the Blues win, I doubt they get Chicago in the 2nd round. I think Anaheim or San Jose will lose. Maybe both.

Also, does anyone know if there are any pre-game festivities at the game tonight?

There's a rally at 4:30 to get things going, I'm sure there will be plenty of tail-gating going on. Link: http://blues.nhl.com/club/page.htm?i...id=DL|STL|home

Edit: Rally towel tonight for those going...someone grab me an extra, lol!

I think the series hinges on 5 things for the Blues:

1) Goaltending: The Blues don't have the raw firepower edge to consistently overcome bad goals, so it's going to have to be on point for the Blues to have a shot.

2) Transition play: LA is at its best when they can hem the puck in their offensive zone and apply their aggressive forecheck. Poor transition play will lead to turnovers and extended defensive zone time for the Blues, which will lead to losses. Clean transition play can beat the pressure and lead to chances the other way.

3) Owning the middle of the ice: The Blues forwards are going to have to buckle down and fight for the middle in all three zones. They'll have a lot of trouble scoring if they play a perimeter game in the offensive zone, and the neutral/defensive zones are just as key, IMO. The Blues don't have the edge in skill, so they'll have to win those interior battles with numbers (which is a byproduct of work ethic and desire). If they can't establish a real presence there, they won't be in the playoffs long.

4) Special teams: It's cliche, but special teams can be the get-out-of-jail-free card that pushes a team forward when other parts of their game are letting them down. If the Blues can't get the upper hand in 5 on 5 play, they'll need their special teams to be a difference maker. At the very least, they need to hold their own here to have a shot.

5) Discipline: LA is an aggressive and physical team, and emotions are going to run high. If the Blues lack discipline, they are going to spend a lot of time in the penalty box and lose focus when it comes to execution. They need to play with passion, but they can't let that passion overwhelm them. Not an easy task.

We've talked about points 1,2, 3, and 5 a lot but not a lot about special teams.

Focusing on the man advantage because the PK looks great, I thought the Blues power play looked better down the stretch, they get Oshie back which should help entires, LA's PK splits are fairly drastic home and road, and they won't have Greene and Mitchell at their disposal (at least tonight, in Greene's case) who were so good at boxing out and clearing rebounds for the ultra-aggressive Quick last post-season.

Definitely. LA will take a huge toll on us and us them. Both teams will need some replacements.

Heads up.

The Kings will be without Matt Greene tonight. He is desperately needed for us to be able to bring our A game so this is a big deal to us.

I am hoping Martinez is in and Lolerby sits but it seems like Suter likes size over substance in this situation.

Guys I know the fourth line has been playing very well, but if we have to rely on them we are royally ****ed.
