WOW, a lot less than I thought he was going to get. Great deal for Horny.

4.25 is a lot less? I was thinking 3.75

Wow... overpayment IMO. The cap is dropping, and he is too one dimensional to earn a $4.25 cap hit.

Hopefully he lives up to it.

4mil seems about. The term makes me nervous though. If he regresses at all or the constant punishment he gets takes it's toll injury-wise, this could hurt.

Still, much better than losing him for nothing and he is a great piece to have locked up. Pole is wasting no time this year.

By the way, Hornqvist now makes only .75mil more than Gaustad...

Yeah there goes would be signed cheap. Next is Josi, lets hop DP locks him up in the same manner he did Klein 5 years 15 mil should be doable.

If we sign Josi to that deal, golfmade will hear my yell of happiness in Taiwan.

He's going to be in the neighborhood of 30 goals every year.

3.75M? 4M?

Look at the Zajac deal. Look at the Grabovski deal.

You can't just make numbers up...to get him signed for under 5 is way more than I thought possible. Goals are the quickest way to a payday in the NHL, and Horny is our best, most consistent goalscorer.

I'm a bit biased because he's one of my favorites, but I LOVE this deal. He does the dirty work and pots goals (which we need). $4 is fair to me.

Not sure what he has left, but hopefully he's signed until his last year of RFA ($3 a year sounds about right).

Personally I think we got a great deal here. In my book he is a top 6 forward and plays his guts out on every shift no matter what. Love that Poile went right to work and got this deal done.

As for Josi....no way he signs for more than 3 years. He will get a deal that keeps him within the RFA limits when the contract is up.

That's a little higher than I'd like, but it's not too bad. His PPG production is only slightly higher than what Fisher and Legwand give us, and he's paid similar money to those two through his prime years as an NHL player.

Nice to see our core players signing long term now. Hopefully this bodes well for our shot at a couple bugger free agents then what we're used to.

nice, could be a cheaper cap hit but this is a good move. Get all our players deals out of the way so Poile can focus on bringing others in and shipping some out.

this. He would likely get at least 5 in the UFA market, even in the reduced cap era.

one less bit of drama for the summer.

Im sorry if I seem like I am picking on you because others have said this same thing, but I just have to ask you one question

are you paying Gaustads salary?

because if you arent, unless we are unable to sign someone else due to paying him his salary, then why does it matter what he makes??

Gaustad gives us something we absolutely need. if we dont have him we have to go out and pay for someone else because you have to have that kind of player on your team. He commanded a 1st at the trade deadline because more than one team wanted him. he commanded the salary he did because good GM's know to win you need a guy like him and if Poile hadnt given him his money some other GM would have.

I will only sweat Gaustads salary if we ever find ourselves in a position where we need an extra million in cap space and dont have it. until then, its a moot point

Just had this discussion with Hustlechuck today. I agree 100%. The contract is awful, but dropping it for the sake of dropping it only makes the situation worse. If we get in a situation where we need to money to bring some one, let's worry about it then.
