One GM has already contacted Nashville about the 4th overall pick

I dont see Nashville trading down. Poile was on the radio last night saying that they thought there were "about 5 or 6 special players in this draft" and that they were going to get one at 4. He said last week that if they were to trade the pick, it would be for a more established player.

If Anaheim offered something around Bobby Ryan, that would be one thing...but I can't see this "unproven prospect and pick just outside of top ten for pick 4" business.

Nashville needs one slam-dunk prospect...not two pretty good ones.

If I had to guess, I'd guess it was Holmgren moving up. We have a lot of history and trades between our two franchises, but I have no idea how personally GMs take some of these things, so it quite possibility might not be Homer as the Weber might have butchered their relationship.

You think?

2 teams I wouldn't count on being Preds in a hurry to trade with are Philly and Minnesota

I have a feeling it's Feaster as well.

He said the top 4 is elite and said the 6th pick would be in play only to move up.

I doubt this pick gets moved.

Every GM takes calls regarding their picks. Big deal

Sounds like it could be Buffalo. Vanek straight across?

It is hard to know, I guess. I'm sure Poile would have preferred to handle the Weber negotiations without a third party--but it is possible that Weber never signs a long-term extension (depending on what Nashville was actually offering).

There are all sorts of reasons not to trade with some teams (division, conference) and I guess personal animosity could be part of it, but if Poile saw an opportunity to improve the team by dealing with the Flyers, I'd think he would.

Anyway, I don't see why the Flyers would trade up to 4th. That's Barkov's slot on most lists, and he doesn't seem to fit a need worth moving other assets.

Can't see Nashville doing that. Too much risk that Vanek either walks or demands a massive payday next offseason.

Poile's not used to having a top pick (It has been a while!), you should never hint what you're looking to do/willing to move it without expecting lots of responses!

Oilers 7th and something. Is there anything which might get Preds interested?

I hope we keep it and just draft barkov, reading about him has got me excited about drafting him.

He was very upset at being in the lottery he even said he never wants to go back. Sounded and looked pretty mad at the lottery.

I wouldn't be surprised if the CBJ contacted Nashville. No longer in the same division and CBJ has the assets to get there. Doubt Nashville would move it but with JK in charge of CBJ and his Finnish background it seems like Barkov would be a perfect scenario for Columbus.

There's probably dozens of these phone calls all over the place right now, GMs trying to improve their teams. Doubt much will come of them, at least not until draft day anyway.

Nurse could be available at #7 so I don't think the Oilers should be too jumpy about trading the pick.

But then you'd be playing one of RNH, Gagner or Barkov on the 3rd line. No young player drafted in the top 10 of the first round is going to be happy getting pegged as a 3rd line center so early in his career, it would affect his point totals and, thus, his earnings.

Obviously you have no idea what kind of player Barkov is.

Going to require a lot to move the pick; every NSH fan is thrilled with the Barkov option. I can't fathom Poile moving it. And why would PHI want to move to #4? I'd assume they'd be targeting Nurse/Risto/etc. that will likely go in the #8-11 range.

Sean Couturier agrees.

I don't see a problem with Barkov getting 3rd line minutes at the start of his career. It would arguably do much more for his development than dominating overseas.

And if it's not Columbus then Barkov ain't worth it.

Which would interest the Preds more:
1st (2014) + 14th Overall --> Columbus
9th + 39th --> New Jersey
25th + 29th + 66th --> Calgary

Just spitballing, but I wanna put some names:
Barkov
for
1st(2014-could be anywhere) + Wennberg/Mantha
or
Shinkaruk + Bowey
or
Hartman + Hagg + Cassels

I don't imagine any of those are enough.

Columbus could make an offer, but it would probably have to include both its pick and one of its other 1sts.
