If we trade it, it will be an overpayment. AKA a star young forward. Vanek is too old IMO, and can leave in a year.

We have 0 reason to move this pick. Teams can call all they want, we want Barkov.

In a vacuum, yes that's definitely fair value given Buffalo is only four spots back. Factor in contract, age, and the fact I think we go through another Suter / Weber process trying to re-sign Vanek and the answer is no most likely.

The proposal was Vanek straight up for the 4th...

As an oiler fan is old love that pick but it won't happen. Nashville should just keep it and draft Barkov and have him and forsberg on a top line for a while. That top line would be huge.

The only reason to move to 4th is to take Barkov. Doesn't make sense for the Flyers to do that.

I'm guessing Feaster. He has openly stated about the "elite 4" in the draft. He seems very high on Barkov, however, he also seems high on Lindholm.

That was my understanding, as well, and no, we would not be interested in this. Vanek isn't going to instantly make this team a Cup contender, and there's no guarantee he re-signs. Would be a foolish move by Poile.

Nashville will not trade that pick. Barkov is exactly what that team needs.
Forsberg and Barkov will be scary in a few years. And a good players on an ELCs is how Nashville stays competitive every year.

Not going to happen.

He will be gone by then.

at 6 however

Weird not being in the playoffs.
Good year to tank though I suppose.

Poile likes his picks, just not used to being this high up.
He'll keep it.

Not the Oilers. Some rumors has it that Hemsky and the 7th OA Pick is going to Phoenix in exchange for Yandle and 12th OA Pick. Oilers 2nd pick is also going to the Dogs along with Ewanyk and Musil in exchange for Sammuelson and Connor Murphy. The Oilers want Lazar with the 12th pick. Just a rumor I read.

Yandle
Sammuelson
Connor Murphy
Phoenix 12th OA pick (Oilers take Lazar)

Edmonton 7th OA pick
Hemsky
Musil
Ewanyk
Oilers 2nd Round Pick (37th OA)

This is essentially a non-story. Poile told it anecdotally to illustrate why he shouldn't have blabbed about his intent to take a forward at 4, it wasn't framed in a "we're in negotiations" sort of way.

Also, as others have mentioned, I'm guessing teams are calling every team in the top ten about their pick. Everyone wants to move up at the draft, if the price is right.

Not that the Sens would be the caller, but Ottawa could certainly offer a solid package for the 4th.

Ottawa drafts 17th
- could offer the 17th
- could offer a young NHL defenseman (Wiercioch/Gryba)
- could offer a young NHL forward (Conacher, Silfverberg)
- could offer prospects (Noesen, Ceci, Stone)
- can't offer a young goalie.
- could offer other depth players (Condra/Greening etc) and prospects

If I was Nashville I'd keep the pick and get a good building block like Barkov for the future.

Poile, of all the NHL GMs, hasn't gotten to where he is by holding grudges or passing on opportunities to improve his club. If the Flyers called and offered Couturier and #11 for #4 and a 3rd rounder* or something, surely Nashville would have to consider such a move.

* Note: not intended to be an actual proposal I'm offering, but more to illustrate a point. That is "NHL GMs not named Brian Burke will generally not hold these kinds of grudges."

not a chance.

vanek is only signed for one more year and will cost huge $$ next summer even if we could re-sign him

whoever we draft at #4 will be ours, and be relatively cheap, for the next several years.

Way too much from Phoenix IMO. Can't see the Coyotes trading Sammuelson. More quantity than quality than I would expect to get for Yandle.

I could see a lot of teams coveting that pick. Barkov is the kind of big, skilled centre that every team craves. I'm sure Nashville will listen to offers, but unless they can get a potential asset back that can have an impact like a big, skilled, centre, I don't see them making a move. They're in too good of a spot to add some much needed offensive potential.

Heard that, too. Probably answers the question in this thread: it was Regier and Buffalo.
