Thats the difficult thing. Edmonton has the trade pieces to make an impact trade, but a player has to be available to get moved. There were reasons Richards/Carter were moved (dressing room/salary cap space for Bryzgalov), there were reasons J. Staal were moved (asked to be traded, specifically to Carolina), etc.

Realistically, I could see some defencemen like Yandle, Girardi, Enstrom, etc being available for help up front (in a trade for Eberle for example). Legitimate forwards that could be available? I cant think of any good fits for Edmonton.

Stastny is likely available, but Colorado will probably want a defenceman in return, which Edmonton doesnt have, and Stastny isnt the type of C Edmonton would want to trade for anyways. Same for Couturier, might be available, but it would be for a high end defenceman, not picks/prospects/wingers/etc.

A different take on this:

Why not take Nurse at 7, and trade one of the defensive prospects for a mid-1st to take Lazar?

Toronto can package their 1st round pick with Edmonton's to move up a couple of slots and get that #1 center they have been looking for.

Edmonton gets some size in Kulemin who is very good in his own end and plays a good all round game, something the Oilers desperately need and a countryman to play with Yakupov. They also get a great young defenceman who is best friends with their stud on the backend Justin Shultz. It would also be good for their team chemistry.

Win Win for both teams
I would not deal the 7th for those two players. TO would have to add something else.

We do not need a concussed Defence man who has not been able to regain his form . All i would give up for Gardiner at this time is our late 2nd rd pick . I know the TML fans won't like it and that fine keep him , his value is low right now .

We need defensive help sooner rather than later. Even if we took Nurse now there is no way he steps in next season. Klefbom, Marincin and maybe even Gernat are much closer to being NHL ready.

People mock Edmonton's forward development but they have been extremely patient with their D prospects.

Gernat isn't more ready. Not even close really.

I like the idea of

EDM

Myers
Ott
Girgensons (bring some depth to our C prospects)

Buf

7th overall pick
Hemsky
Gernat

I would throw in ANH 2nd is needed to get the deal done.

Myers scares me a bit but is young enough he can bounce back and has proven he can be game changing defensemen when he's on. A change of scenery and getting in a room with guys more his age might be enough for him to get his confidence back.

you need A LOT more than just a 2nd.

Girgenson was picked 14th last year.

You want to give up your crap pieces...If buffalo is rebuilding why on earth would they want Hemsky--and give up a 1st from last year?

Your not getting Myers without giving up one of your top 4.

You have 7th---big deal. If this was a 4th that would be different then buffalo would be able to get one of Drouin/Barkov/MacK

This is an utter $%^^& insult.

ok what about

Edm

Myers
Ott

Buff

7th pick
hemsky
gernat
hartikinan

gives Buf lots of solid prospects for rebuild and a top 10 pick and a bridge player who if can stay healthy puts up points.

Myers is a huge risk. His game has regressed every year since his rookie year. He hasn't shown the mental toughness to get back to where he once was. And his price tag I wouldn't risk the 7th overall.

If I was MacT, I would offer up Paajarvi + 2nd 2013 + conditional 1st in 2014 (based in how he performs next season)

He is closer than Nurse will be. Development wise. Unless we draft a Doughty there is no way we put an 18/19 yr old D on our blueline next year.

Daley and Roussel are not enough for the 7th. And you have our 3rd not 2nd.

And MacT wouldn't be looking for early picks anyways. It would be depth player + late round pick if anything.

Some rumors has it that Hemsky and the 7th OA Pick is going to Phoenix in exchange for Yandle and 12th OA Pick. Oilers 2nd pick is also going to the Dogs along with Ewanyk and Musil in exchange for Sammuelson and Connor Murphy. The Oilers want Lazar with the 12th pick. Just a rumor I read.

Yandle
Sammuelson
Connor Murphy
Phoenix 12th OA pick (Oilers take Lazar)

Edmonton 7th OA pick
Hemsky
Musil
Ewanyk
Oilers 2nd Round Pick (37th OA)

Why would the Oilers take the risk of taking on Myers? there would be much better options for that package IMO. Safer options.

Gardiner for 7th..thats the deal if Gardiner shows well in series with Boston and Toronto wants a Centre this draft its way more than fair for both sides.

Toronto then deals 7th + 20th to move up 2-3 spots to draft the player they want..

Why would Buffalo do that? Myers is still young and could easily get his career back on track with proper coaching, don't know much about Gernat but he obviously isn't elite or anything, why would we want hemsky? Ott is way to valuable for us and Girgensons is one of our only phisycal prospects.
If you want ott AND Myers it starts with one of the kids.

I'm not sold on Nurse being an NHL'er next year, but he's likely only a year away. Whereas Gernat should have at least two years to work on his balance and skating. Not to mention his decision making.

Because then they are another 2 years away from having either of those players be an impact.

They need to be better NEXT year. They are wasting their ELC contracts due to bad management.
