There is a lot of debate about what it means to be a fan.

Why should there have to be a fan handbook in order to determine such things? I think with "small morals" like fandom-- we are pretty decent at hammering out such things.

Not sure about the girlfriend analogy, or anything DFF has ever uttered, really.

It stands to reason that some fanwagoning stands countercurrent to what we want to say about fandom without banishing it to the realm of absolute relativity.

Case in point, I have a friend who, upon moving to Pittsburgh, became a Penguins fan-- especially after they won the cup. Then, he moved to LA and became a Kings fan after they won their cup. Now he's a King's and Penguins fan.

His ties to those cities: Less than a year job. He's been in LA for awhile now. He won't stop saying "Philly West" in order to pal around with me when we talk hockey.

That is some weasel nonsense right there.

I've been a Flyer's fan for HOW LONG NOW? Something is wrong with his fandom -- and he's celebrated two cups. TWO. In different cities! Been to TWO parades.

Hate the Penguins and Leafs. Gotta cheer for the Kings but if they were to win it again, you might want to keep Snider, Holmgren and Laviolette away from high buildings and bridges for awhile.

Whoever wins out of the Blues vs Kings series will go a long way if they are not too beat up!

I would pull for the Sharks to win except I know it is futile. It's like watching Star Wars 3 and hoping Anakin doesn't turn to the dark side. You know there is no hope.

While I acknowledge this to be true, I still can't help but think there ought to be some rulebook!

Hi everyone, first time poster here. I've been a long-time lurker and finally decided to create an account. As for getting on a bandwagon, I'm indifferent. With the Flyers out of the playoffs, I find it difficult to actively root for/against another team. I wouldn't mind watching the Islanders make a deep run though. That franchise has been mired in mediocrity for so long, it would be nice to see the fans who've stuck by the team be rewarded for their loyalty.

Now this, is a great analogy. It's also totally true. Until they start to rebuild, I don't think they're going anywhere.

I can understand the sympathy for the Islander fanbase. They sure have a rough first round opponent, too.

Why not let them jump! Without their interference, the team would have a better chance to get better.

Whenever my Flyers are out of the playoffs, I root for the teams from Canada

So I'll be supporting Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. Mainly Toronto! They haven't lifted the Cup since the 60's, so Go Mapleleafs!

I've given this a lot of thought. I definitely want the Isles to do well (at least beat the Pens, obviously) but other than that I'm just going to enjoy the playoffs without the usual hoping for this or that team to lose (to help the Flyers). Let's see some nice 3OT marathons please.

Edit: Also agree with Jim about the Canadian teams, though the Canucks and Habs aren't particularly likeable. Would be cool to see Toronto or Ottawa do well.

Funny. I always root against the Canadian teams for the same reason

I'm an old fan. I can remember when there were only six teams, so rooting for the teams from the place where hockey was invented is easy for me.
That and they're within the British commonwealth....like me.

with CBJ not going now im officaly not giving a **** who wins.

i voted for LA last year due to Carter/Richards, but this year im not feeling any LA love.

there are certainly some teams i'll route to fail, but not any one team to win it all..

grats to whoeva does in the end, but i wont really care one way or the other.

still sad CBJ came so close and was denied like they were...

Anyone who plays the Blues. I don't want them making any more money

Also I hate the Kings. I know King fans ***** about Doan, but Brown is the closest thing to him in the league. Kinda funny. That's what happens in heated rivalries though.

Brown had two questionable plays in back to back games. That took the shine off him for me.

I would have cheered for the Kings but their fans are utterly obnoxious since they've won the cup. Pretty embarrassing actually. They have a big inferiority complex.

No team in particular now.

Bob Nystrom. I can't cheer for the Islanders.

(Hypocrite that I am for telling Krishna to get over the Carter missed shot 3 years ago.)

I'm going for St. Louis. Wouldn't really mind anyone winning the Cup besides the Pens and Rangers.

Wasn't Nystrom offsides?

I had no problem rooting for the Oilers in '06, after 30+ years I can get behind the Islanders. Also playing the Pens, I'd get a kick out of somebody stepping into the David Volek role.

The Isles. They were everything the Flyers weren't this season: Hard working, well coached, and played a full 60 minutes every night.

Pens are losing tonight and going out in 6.
