you can back up and look at the bigger picture, though. how about JM? mike kitchen? fans hate on coaches if they don't win. they'll find some reason to claim this guy or that guy is an idiot and then conveniently ignore the fact they move on and have success.

not saying we shouldn't debate or criticize. do we have to vilify, though? is anyone really qualified to go that far? is there a point?
I dunno man, i have to keep sides with the ignore list on this one. Granted making the Cup finals takes the junior coach label away, doesnt mean he didnt earn it here.
While you admitted to basically watching the majority of his panther games on the fly, many of us were left scratching our heads nightly with his decisions.

Does anyone find it coincidental that when the panthers won the division last year hf main threads blew up about changing loser point and goal differential.

This year when panthers finish last in the league there is a thread an hour regarding eliminating tanking.

This year when we have a talented rookie play with no talent and against the best teams everyone finds reasons and excuses for him not to win the calder.

This team is persecuted far too much and I really am starting to get sick and tired of it. God I wish our owners would stack this team with high end players so we can shut them up.

I think you're taking those threads far too personally. People were complaining about tanking when the Oilers were getting their picks, as well.

ok, i know everyone's an expert here on managing an NHL bench but let's get real - do you *really* think he could've done anything that would have made even a marginal difference? look at those teams!

there's a reason *lou lamariello* scooped him up almost as soon as tallon fired him - lamariello knew he'd done as well as he could have with the hands he'd been dealt.

Are people REALLY still debating Deboer/Dineen around here? That's why I left in the first place and I see nothing has changed.

The Deboer/Dineen debate was in EVERY thread for like 3 months. Totally different than reminiscing.

Though I havent the shred of wisdom that you have, id think one can conclude maybe if PDB wasnt a " jr. coach", he couldve won at least one scf game and avoided all the game 7s.
Just the same...the horrid cast he had missed the playoffs by a point (a game, a point, bad decisions...it wouldn't have made a *marginal* difference???).

Even the great lou lam can be wrong from time to time.

Even the greater zeroG can be wrong more often than that!:p

edit* sry Rattrick, at least it made you post something!

I'm excited too. Can't wait to hear DT call MacKinnon's name up there.

That was an impressive goal, I must say. All the better they put it at #3 after putting a Chara goal against the Panthers at #4

Keenan got first pick in draft lottery, or actually not him. Panthers sent one office employee instead of GM to draft lottery and Keenan told her, in straight face: "You better come back with 1st pick".

lam's not beyond mistakes but you gotta give him the benefit of the doubt. (and when his pick gets him to the final...) i actually agree with you in that there's no way we should've taken them to 7 games with the crap hockey we were playing. they picked it up after the first round. when you consider kovy was half a player by the final and how badly they were overmatched, it's no surprise they were blanked.

remember, i was most critical of pete his first year in FL; i thought we lost critical points when the team got away from what the style he was preaching, particularly that fall/winter during a northeast road trip. however, i tempered that criticism with the understanding he was a rookie coach. his 2nd and 3rd year teams were nothing if not hard working. they just couldn't score.

perhaps i'll be wrong about pete in the long run but right now, he looking pretty solid.

and for rattrick - this is the "around the NHL" forum and this is (was) news. ignore the thread (or me) if you don't like it.

Do the analysis people read teleprompt or do they improv?

Jaffe said point of contact was chest, though he failed to mention Eller's chin was already at his own shoulder...

Funny what "fat bug-eyed walrus" said about blame the passer, because the passer is supposed to know.and it dont matter what the hitter should be aware of apparently.
