it's not that we can't win without him, it's that we'd have a HUGE advantage over everyone in having Santana/Liriano 1-2 punch in the playoffs. I hope he makes a comeback next year and is able to pitch at the same level
I've had the honor of watching him pitch here (even caught his rehab start recently) and he's just an amazing talent....hopefully that's the last time we'll hear "Tommy John" and his name in the same sentence.
They need to get him to develop a changeup a la Santana, and rely less on sliders. That would help extend his career.
Yeah, but that slider is sooooo nasty...I think they need to work on his release more. He's always falling towards 3rd base, maybe because he's trying to throw it so hard. I remember Bert talking about this a long time ago and mentioned this could be a problem in the future. A very violent release. He's gonna need to work with some veterens during the offseason to find some sort of compromise.
