What? The whole point of amnesty buyouts is that there isn't a cap hit.

Well I don't know what to call it, lol, I just looked on capgeek that if Schultz is bought out, 750K counts against the cap (and 1M the year after that). So, whatever it's called..

But whether or not there's an extra 750K cap hit to get rid of Schultz doesn't seem to affect the primary options much, the effect is more in the sense of whether you also have to let go of somebody like Hendricks to make it all fit.

Each team was allotted two "compliance" buyouts from the signing of the new CBA (with some timing restrictions). These compliance buyouts do not carry a salary cap penalty.

Otherwise, teams have an unlimited number of standard buyouts, which do carry a cap penalty.

Right. Teams get 2 of these as per the CBA that they have to use within a certain period of time (by next summer at latest???)

There is no cap hit for these as far as I know.

Probably this. We do treat people like **** around here, even our own. The atmosphere is usually pretty toxic for the uninitiated and can even be pretty uninviting for the regular crowd. My guess is she just got fed up with it.

So you're saying she is the Wojtek Wolski of hockey players. Doesn't want any part of paying the price to make plays. That damning!

I don't think Wolski has ever gotten fed up with anything.

Right; but then some posts seemed to indicate that not all contracts are eligible for these compliance buyouts, so I decided not to take it for granted.

I don't understand why do buyouts? Why not trade?

some contracts there are no takers for. if noone is willing to give up a 7th round pick for schultz, you have to buy him out. once bought out there might be a line of teams willing to give him a cheap one year contract to see if they can get it to work with him

Trade would be great! But I'm going by the absolute worst scenario -- there are no takers for Schultz, his contract somehow does not fit compliance criteria.. so in this worst case, Caps have a 750K hit if they buy him out. If it doesn't come to that, you can adjust the numbers/scenarios accordingly.

Regular buyouts still exist.

As ChibiPooky said, each team is limited to two compliance buyouts, and none after next offseason.

Yes, regardless of whether or not Schultz is eligible for a compliance buyout, there is such a thing as a buyout cap hit.

Whether or not one would be applicable to a Schultz buyout is a separate issue.

Didn't they try and start up a forum a few years ago? The whole comment to a blog post in lieu of a forum is just a fail for me personally.

Not sure about a forum, but I'm totally with you on the comment thing. So clunky.

Good god yes. I was there for about a year before I came here, and it's a wonder that my 'z' key survived. Great content there, and nice people, but **** that system is terrible.
