God, **** the Brewers. One of the worst players in baseball...no problem.

If Russell Martin comes through here, I'm on the bandwagon forever.

Put Barmes in a Brewers uniform and he'd go 4-4 with a HR and a walk so long as he was playing the Pirates at Mordor Park.

This game was a real table flipper.

game over. the Pirates are just collectively terrible in Milwaukee. heck, they're not that great outside of Milwaukee, either.

What the hell was that?

That's the kind of play I expect to happen with the teams reversed in this situation.

And a clutch 0-2 hit by Pedro against our old friend Mike Gonzalez brings in Inge, thanks to Inge's aggressive base-running on the error.

With Tabata gone, They'll call up Presley from Indy. Jerry Sands is hitting .145 and Felix Pie is hitting .172

Hurt...something stealing 2nd base.

I don't want to speculate on what it was, but with the immediacy of him calling to the dugout and the way he went off the field I'd be shocked if he doesn't find himself on the DL.

Of course it could have just been a charley horse and he could be fine.

That may have worked to our advantage, cruelly, in that inning. With our depleted bench and bullpen James McDonald wound up replacing Tabata on the basepaths. Inge's hit could have scored McDonald, but it would have been close and a good throw would have been an out with McDonald on the bases, but probably a fairly easy run for Tabata since he'd be off on contact. Weeks seemed to be over-thinking the play to come and he winds up kicking the ball 50 feet away, allowing McDonald to trot home and Inge to wind up at third.

tabata has some seriously bad legs. hope snider can stay healthy, but that seems fairly unlikely

And his sample size is what? You cannot get much worse than Barmes when it comes to offense, I mean what did he show last year? Either way, this team should try and deal for a good ss before the all star break this year to contend. I am sick of it being an automatic out every time our ss comes up to bat, and when he can't even field a routine ground ball, it's time to make a move....

Not many are happy with Barmes including me, but his defense is fine and youre not replacing him with a 38 yo career backup that's hit even worse than Barmes during his chareer.

This deserves some loving.

edit: Roster moves via Pirates Prospects...
Contreras activated; Hughes optioned to Indy.
Walker to DL; Mercer re-called.

Contreras could be interesting to follow...Hughes has been less-than-stellar so it's no surprise to see him being on the short-end of the stick here, but over Mazarro (the hot streak is over) and Morris (so close to getting another year of control if he's in Indianapolis) is a bit surprising. Contreras is 41 and coming off of Tommy John Surgery...but I haven't heard a single negative word spoken about him since he entered the organization and the results in the minors were pretty damn good. Mercer is hitting extremely well in Indianapolis and right now the Pirates just can't afford to keep having a short bench. If Walker wasn't going to return in this series, which he obviously wasn't going to, then he had to be put on the DL.

Contreras fills the 40 man roster spot that has been vacant since Leroux was DFA'd. Leroux is currently playing in Japan with the Yakult Swallows - a team that also employs former Pirates Aki Iwamura and Lastings Milledge.
