Yeah, Dubnyk actually had a pretty good year. Even if his name is stupid.

Edit: If Bryz played for Edmonton, he would have faced nearly 300 extra shots over the course of the season. Haha. And the last time I did the math, his GAA would likely be between 3.8 and 4.0.

Of course. As long as he played decent in a handful of games.

Not to be confused with his GPA.

I know the stats are better but something in me says it's not that black and white. Dubnyk sucks!

With the Flyers, Masonís sample was small, but he played like Hall of Famer Bernie Parent in his prime, going 4-2 with a 1.90 GAA and .944 save percentage.
He admits the sample size was small but then goes ahead and compares his play to a HOFer in Bernie Parent anyway. Way to feed the hype machine Randy!

Once Mason does that two years in a row we can start comparing. Until then, nah.

I think he could have just said Mason played great, spectacular, wonderful, or whatever positive adjective you want to use there and he wouldn't have looked like an idiot. He's a dumb MFer but he supplies the lol's.

"Steve Mason has outplayed the likes of Terry Sawchuk, Martin Brodeur, Dominik Hasek, Tom Barrasso, Chico Resch, Darren Pang, Billy Smith, Trevor Kidd, Felix Potvin, Grant Fuhr, and Jim Carey over his 7 games as a Flyer."

-RANDY MILLER (probably)

Jim Carey would actually be an accurate comparison to Mason at this point. They both were hotshot young goalies who put up crazy numbers to start out their careers and then bottomed out early.

Mason still has some time to rectify his career and I hope so but if he didn't he would go down with same likes of Jim Carey and Andrew Raycroft.

just one more year to make absolutely sure about bryzgalov and he's a cushion to keep easing mason in to see if he's for real. if not , at least stolarz will be a little closer to getting here. no where to go but up....i ****in hope. jesus. i didn't think about it getting worse. marone!

if goaltending isnt an issue in Philadelphia then it isnt an issue in Edmonton, Florida, or even Calgary. In fact there isnt any team where goaltending isnt a issue.

Steve Mason ready to challenge Ilya Bryzgalov in Flyers camp

Good to hear some resolve from at least one of our goaltenders....

Funny how Reese all of the sudden has been resurrected as a savior but if Mason likes him and Mason is resurrected ...cool.

Hopefully, Mason stays away from McCrossin and his crackpot ideas though....sounds like he has his own trainer...good!

He welcomes a battle for No. 1 with Bryzgalov - if the Flyers don't buy out the veteran.

"I think competition is always a good thing, no matter what position," Mason said. "I'm not sure what will happen, but I'm not worried about it. I'm just excited about the opportunity and want to make the most of it."

In the offseason, he plans to work five days a week with a trainer near his home outside Toronto. "You do everything you can in the summer to make sure you're ready," he said. "I plan to come to Philly early to hit the ground running. I'll probably get here three or four weeks before camp to settle in and talk with Jeff Reese."

Haha, well McCrossin is the athletic trainer, not the strength and conditioning coach.

I'm weary of McCrossin too though.

Mason will snap the first time he's on a slump and the Flyers media pressures him. It's a known fact

Yeah this is what concerns me.....he does seem to have a very bipolar way about him. Obviously, not a personality type the Flyers need considering they need stability at that position for more than 1 year at a time...or worse 1 period at a time like when it was musical goalies in the playoffs.

Hopefully though he matures and is less prone to mental meltdowns in bad times...

Mason is going to beast next year

Guy is focused again, and has his confidence back. He will be the #1 within the first month or two

I hope one of our two goalies is a beast next year, if not both of them. I like the 1a and 1b thing Chicago had with Emery and Crawford being hot, although I likely attribute that to great team play over great goaltending.
