Whatever the answer to the first question is, the answer to the second question is no.

Because the guys that are good enough to step into the NHL next year are all going to be gone by #8.
E: Unless Monahan slips to us. I see him having a shot at making the NHL next year, especially if he got picked by a team as desperate for forwards who know what defense is as Buffalo.

I wish they explained this Better or used round numbers because you can't put 18.8 balls in a bin with 100.
14 numbered balls. 4 are selected. That 4-number series is compared up against a probability chart.

Colorado kid Seth Jones goes home to Denver, great for marketing.

The whole process is sketchy to say the least, some may have their doubts.

I thought they put in numbered balls and it comes out like any of the ball lottery games -- each team has a certain number of combinations for themselves.

They should show the lottery machine, expulsion of balls, and publish the probability chart. It doesn't need to be on TV. Post it on your website after the show.

Hopefully they use an outside consulting firm to do the selection.

Both Couturier and Pouliot are very solid prospects/players for their teams. I think there's plenty of talent to take at 8 overall.

Probably not, but that doesn't speak to the quality of prospect.

The NHL does this, with an auditor behind closed doors.

There's even a video from this year's lottery: http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=243891
